2024-09-24
On September 23, Ma Xingrui, Secretary of the Party Committee of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, met with Li Guangfu, President of the China Taoist Association, in Urumqi. Ma Xingrui expressed gratitude to the Chinese Taoist Association for their concern and support for the work in Xinjiang. He said that doing a good job in religious work is an important part of Xinjiang's complete, accurate, and comprehensive implementation of the Party's governance strategy in the new era. Xinjiang has historically been a region where multiple religions coexist, and this religious pattern has continued to this day. Taoism is rooted in the fertile soil of Chinese culture, containing rich humanistic ideas and embodying ancient Eastern wisdom. It has been inherited, developed, and played a role in Xinjiang since ancient times. Kunlun Mountain is an important symbol and carrier of Chinese Taoist culture. Digging into its rich connotations is of great value in promoting excellent traditional Chinese culture and forging a sense of community for the Chinese nation. In recent years, Xinjiang has fully implemented the basic principles of the Party's religious work, fully implemented the Party's policy of freedom of religious belief, adhered to the orientation of Chinese religion, focused on building "three teams", managed religious affairs according to law and regulations, guided religion to adapt to the socialist society, and better played a positive role in promoting Chinese path to modernization in Xinjiang. We hope that the China Taoist Association will continue to pay attention to religious work in Xinjiang, support and guide the healthy development of Taoism in Xinjiang, and better play the role of Taoism and its venues in promoting religious harmony, enhancing the "Five Identifications" of the masses, and promoting the development of cultural tourism industry in Xinjiang. Li Guangfu stated that the Chinese nation is a big family, and all ethnic groups and religions should exchange and learn from each other for harmonious and inclusive development. In history, Taoism blended and coexisted with other religions in Xinjiang, leaving distinct cultural imprints and historical relics. The China Taoist Association will actively support the work of Taoism in Xinjiang, deeply explore and interpret Taoist cultural elements such as Kunlun and Queen Mother of the West, spread excellent traditional culture that better meets the needs of modern society and various ethnic groups, and contribute more to the development and construction of Xinjiang. Abudurekfu Tumniyazi and Pu Xuemei, responsible officials from relevant units of the autonomous region, attended the meeting. (New Society)
