On September 19th, it was learned from the Ministry of Public Security that the network security departments of public security organs across the country have handled more than 27000 cases of online rumors this year, lawfully investigated and dealt with more than 31000 netizens who spread rumors, lawfully shut down more than 199000 illegal and irregular accounts, and cleared up more than 1.562 million pieces of online rumor information. Since the beginning of this year, relying on the "Clean Net 2024" special action, the Ministry of Public Security has organized national public security organs to continue to carry out a special action to crack down on and rectify online rumors, timely discovering and investigating clues for spreading rumors through hot public opinion events, resolutely cracking down on self media operators who use online rumors to attract fans, attract traffic, and illegally profit, and severely cracking down on illegal and criminal activities such as fabricating false dangerous situations, disaster situations, and police situations. The Ministry of Public Security has also announced five typical cases of cracking down on illegal and criminal activities related to "transplanting flowers and trees" and splicing online rumors. They are: Zhang's splicing of false subtitle rumors investigated by Guangdong public security organs, Xu's splicing of "55 deaths in highway traffic accidents" online rumors investigated by Jiangsu public security organs, Yuan's splicing of "conflicts between public security traffic police and military personnel" online rumors handled by Hubei public security organs, Ma's splicing of "Nanjing airport woman queuing for heatstroke and entering the hall for rest rejected by security personnel" online rumors handled by Jiangsu public security organs, and Tong's splicing of "ride hailing strike" online rumors handled by Qinghai public security organs. The public security organs will continue to severely punish illegal and criminal activities related to online rumors in accordance with the law, and effectively safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of citizens and the order of the online ecosystem.
