2024-09-14

According to a recent report on the website of India Today magazine, defense officials have stated that as attention to unmanned combat continues to increase, the Indian Navy has been granted permission to build large unmanned underwater vehicles. This decision has recently been approved by the Ministry of Defense with the aim of enhancing India's maritime capabilities on its east and west coasts. Each new submersible weighs about 100 tons and will be equipped with advanced combat capabilities, including weapons, mine clearing systems, and surveillance equipment. Defense sources told reporters from India Today that these unmanned underwater vehicles are expected to monitor and counter the activities of hostile forces on multiple fronts. The Indian Navy plans to deploy these submersibles in deep-sea areas far from the coastline to enhance its strategic surveillance capabilities in critical waters. The introduction of these large unmanned underwater vehicles marks a significant expansion of India's underwater combat capabilities. The report states that this development is part of the Indian Navy's broader strategy to enhance its capabilities through unmanned platforms. In addition to submersibles, the navy is also exploring unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned surface vessels that can be used for reconnaissance and attack operations against enemy warships and other assets.
