The arbitration system is a fundamental legal system in China and an important component of foreign-related rule of law. The Ministry of Justice reported on the overall situation of arbitration work nationwide today. As of now, China has established 282 arbitration institutions with over 60000 arbitrators, handling more than 5 million cases with a total amount of over 8 trillion yuan. The parties involved involve more than 100 countries and regions around the world, providing high-quality, efficient, and professional legal services and guarantees for high-quality economic development and high-level opening up to the outside world. Among them, in 2023, the national arbitration institutions handled a total of 607000 arbitration cases, a year-on-year increase of 27.8%, with a total amount of 116.02 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 17.66%. There were more than 3100 foreign-related cases, a year-on-year increase of 8.28%, with a total amount of 170 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 42.29%. The scope of the case covers economy and trade, engineering construction, finance and insurance, transportation, real estate transactions, agricultural production and operation, Internet economy, intellectual property and many other fields. Fully leverage the important role of arbitration in diverse dispute resolution mechanisms. Establish specialized institutions such as commercial mediation centers, establish a roster of mediators, and continuously improve the ability and level of arbitration and mediation. By 2023, 194000 arbitration institutions across the country will settle cases through mediation and settlement, accounting for 36.5% of the total number of cases concluded, a year-on-year increase of 16.67%. Carry out the training of foreign-related arbitration talents. In 2022, the Ministry of Justice, together with the Ministry of Education, issued a notice on the implementation of the foreign-related arbitration talent training project, which made specific arrangements for strengthening the training of foreign-related arbitration talents and proposed the "Three Thousand Talents" talent training plan. Since 2022, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Education have continued to implement the Master of Laws (International Arbitration) graduate training program, organizing 20 universities including Tsinghua University and Peking University to sign joint training agreements with arbitration institutions.
