2024-09-06
On September 4th, the China Huaxia Cultural Heritage Foundation organized a group consisting of Juliette Raoul Duval, Vice President of the European Union of the International Association of Museums, Pauline CHASSAING, Head of International Relations at the French National Institute of Heritage (INP), Anne YANOVER, Project and Public Director of the French National Museum of Jimei Asian Art, Adrien BOSSARD, Director of the Nice Asian Art Museum, Isabelle GRASART, Head of Public Services at the Mus é e Sup é rieure des Arts in Paris, and Olivier Labart, Head of Collections and Heritage Curator at the French Museum of Arts and Crafts (CNAM/MESRI). A French cultural and museum exchange delegation composed of experts such as er Labat visited Liwan for investigation. Mr. Su Run, Deputy Secretary General of the China Huaxia Cultural Heritage Foundation, Lu Qiwen, Second level Inspector of Liwan District in Guangzhou, Bu Zhiqun, Chairman of the Liwan District Overseas Chinese Federation, and Chen Genqun, Deputy Director of the Liwan District Bureau of Culture, Radio, Tourism and Sports, accompanied the visit and had discussions and exchanges. The ancient temple has been flourishing for over a hundred years, and its branches and appearance have been passed down to this day. In the morning, a delegation of nearly 20 people visited the Chen Family Temple (Guangdong Folk Crafts Museum) to appreciate its rich and three-dimensional history. The members of the exchange group walked into the Guangdong Folk Crafts Museum and enjoyed the magnificent and towering architecture of the Chen Family Ancestral Hall. They stopped to take a closer look at the brick and wood carvings, took photos to commemorate, and their love for Lingnan classical architecture and intangible cultural heritage exhibits was beyond words. The French cultural and museum exchange delegation appreciated the architectural style of the Chen Family Temple, which is known as the "Hundred Yue Crown Temple" and is hailed as the "culmination of Lingnan architectural art". It was built in the 14th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1888) and completed in the 19th year of Guangxu reign (1893). The Chen Family Ancestral Hall is a three entry courtyard consisting of 19 buildings of various sizes, including nine halls and six courtyards. The layout of the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is well-organized, exquisitely decorated, and magnificent, embodying the great achievements of Guangdong's folk architectural decoration art. The Lingnan Seven Wonders crafts represented by wood carving, brick carving, stone carving, pottery sculpture, gray sculpture, copper iron casting, and painting are fully displayed in this limited space. Its themes also cover many classic stories from the Shang and Zhou dynasties to the Ming and Qing dynasties. Its themes are diverse, vivid in shape, rich in colors, and exquisite in skills, making it a shining hall of folk decoration art. In addition, there are not only "Chinese elements" in the architecture of the Chen Family Temple, but also iron cast flower railings, floor tiles engraved with "HKB", brick carved little angels, and wooden carved Roman numeral clocks. These elements with Western architectural culture were integrated into the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, indirectly reflecting that the Xiguan area at that time had always been the forefront of cultural exchange between the East and the West. The tour guide explained to the French cultural and museum exchange group that collections are the most human fireworks, and intangible cultural heritage cuisine touches people's hearts. At the symposium, Liwan District presented Guangcai works to the China Huaxia Cultural Heritage Foundation. Chairman Bu Zhiqun was entrusted to deliver a welcome speech on behalf of Liwan District, stating that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France. In the traditional Chinese calendar, 60 years is a cycle of reincarnation, symbolizing the continuation and opening up of the past and the future. On the road of friendship between China and France, the exchanges between Guangzhou and France have a long history. As early as 1698, the French merchant ship "Amphitrite" arrived in Guangzhou, ushering in a new era of economic and cultural exchanges between China and France. Porcelain, lacquerware, and silk from China aroused widespread interest in Paris and other places. Strengthening exchanges between China and France in the field of folk culture and museum is conducive to deepening the international dissemination of traditional Chinese culture and intangible cultural heritage, fostering friendship between China and France, and promoting mutual learning of Chinese and French civilizations. Chairman Bu Zhiqun also sent invitations to French experts and foreign friends, sincerely inviting them to come to China, enter Liwan, and taste Xiguan! Teacher Huang Jianhong, a national second level tea evaluator and representative inheritor of intangible cultural heritage tea making techniques, brought everyone an experience and performance of intangible cultural heritage tea making techniques on site, which received a warm response. I saw Teacher Huang pour water into the carefully ground high-quality tea powder to make a paste. Then, while pouring water, he whisked and brushed it, allowing the tea powder and water to fully blend, forming a layer of snow foam and milk flowers on the surface. When the tea soup lingers, the rich milk aroma of the tea soup is presented before our eyes. Teacher Huang invited the exchange group to savor "Dian Cha" and introduce the origin and development of "Dian Cha" in the Song Dynasty, allowing them to experience the tea drinking style of the Song people a thousand years ago, and feel the elegance and romance hidden in the tea ceremony. Mr. Huang Jianhong explained how to order tea as an intangible cultural heritage. At the symposium, French experts were fascinated by the practices and allusions behind the traditional intangible cultural heritage food in the south of the Five Delicacies in Pantang, eight treasure bag tofu, submarine porridge, double skin milk, etc. introduced by the staff one by one. Food is in Guangzhou, taste is in Xiguan. Intangible cultural heritage cuisine leaves an endless aftertaste, where one eats food and savors history. Liwan is confidently showcasing its richness to "global friends": it can be not only a modern city with high-rise buildings, but also a arcade light and shadow of ancient charm, tradition, and Lingnan culture. The street fireworks and strong human emotions also deeply nourish this old city area. Strolling through the old Guangzhou style of Xiguan and seeing the new appearance of Lingnan intangible cultural heritage, Chinese and French cultural and museum experts visited Yongqingfang Historical and Cultural District, Yongqingfang Guangzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage District, Cantonese Opera Art Museum, etc., experiencing the new vitality of the old city that emerged after the collision of traditional culture and modern elements. Yongqing Fang originated in the Ming Dynasty and has a history of hundreds of years. The block preserves many ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, including traditional wooden houses, antique religious buildings, cultural relics, and more. After adopting the micro transformation of "embroidery skills", Yongqing Fang has been transformed into "Guangzhou's first intangible cultural heritage block" and has become a popular "front line of fashion". In 2021, with the joint creation, application, and efforts of the Liwan District Overseas Chinese Federation and the Bureau of Culture, Radio, Tourism, and Sports, the Yongqing Square in Xiguan was confirmed as an international cultural exchange base for Chinese overseas Chinese by the French cultural and museum exchange delegation. Xiguan Yongqing Fang has become a new business card of Guangzhou city that promotes Xiguan culture and tells the story of Liwan well, playing an important role in spreading Lingnan culture and intangible cultural heritage to the world. Experts are amazed by the efforts made by Guangzhou and Liwan in protecting and restoring cultural heritage, occasionally pressing the shutter button to capture beautiful moments. The French cultural and cultural exchange delegation compared the changes in Yongqing Fang tonight and the revitalization of Guangdong's intangible cultural heritage in front of the positioning point. The last stop of the Bay Area Unity is to set sail again. The exchange delegation arrived at the Bai'etan Greater Bay Area Art Center and entered the Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Art Museum, starting a dialogue focused on deep exchanges between Chinese aesthetics and Eastern and Western cultures. The shape of the Dawan District Art Center is like a ship anchored on the the Pearl River, standing on the bank of the the Pearl River and the bank of the Goose Pond, implying that the cultural giant ship full of Lingnan cultural and artistic treasures is about to set sail. The members of the exchange group of the French cultural and museum exchange group visiting the White Goose Pond Arts Center followed the pace of the interpreter to immerse themselves in the rich and colorful traditional intangible cultural heritage skills, folk activities and intangible cultural heritage food, such as Cantonese embroidery, enamel, Shiwan pottery, Guangzhou color, Chaozhou wood carving, Xingshi, morning tea, Xinghua Street, Loong Boat race, Yingge, Chaoshan Ziniang's "out of the garden" ceremony, and walked into the "three meals and four seasons of Cantonese people" and passed through the "life of Cantonese people". The numerous Lingnan intangible cultural heritage masterpieces in the museum comprehensively showcase the profound cultural heritage and distinctive regional characteristics of Guangdong's intangible cultural heritage, allowing guests to open the "box full of intangible cultural heritage treasures" and enjoy the charm of various intangible cultural heritage cultures in one stop, deeply experiencing Guangdong's rich historical culture and rich folk customs. They occasionally stop in their tracks, listen carefully to explanations, capture beautiful moments with their cameras, and try to explore the stories behind each artwork. The French cultural and cultural exchange delegation experienced the large-scale bone carving work "Bay Area Unity" of Guangdong folk customs at the entrance of the fourth floor exhibition hall, showcasing the natural and cultural landscapes of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area to the exchange delegation, allowing everyone to experience the unique charm of the inheritance and development of intangible cultural heritage in the Bay Area firsthand. The work 'Unity in the Bay Area' is grand and visually impactful, yet delicately portrayed, making it unforgettable. It symbolizes that the people of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area share the same roots and roots, unite as one, and jointly build the Greater Bay Area into a vibrant world-class city cluster, becoming a demonstration zone for deep cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong and Macao, an international science and technology innovation center, and a high-quality living circle that is livable, business friendly, and tourist friendly. Chinese and overseas Chinese serve as bridges and links between China and foreign countries. I believe that with the efforts of the overseas Chinese community in Liwan, the vast number of Chinese and overseas Chinese will be able to further expand their contacts at home and abroad, promote foreign exchanges, inherit intangible cultural heritage, carry forward the spirit of Jiageng, tell the story of Liwan well, spread Lingnan culture, highlight the characteristics of urban overseas Chinese hometown, and contribute to the high-quality development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area by integrating excellent traditional Chinese culture and Liwan intangible cultural heritage into the sea and going global.
