The world's first professional large-scale model of the moon is unveiled
2024-08-30
On the 29th, at the 2024 China International Big Data Industry Expo, the Institute of Geochemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Alibaba Cloud jointly released the world's first "multi-modal professional model of lunar science" (hereinafter referred to as "the professional model of the moon"). This large model is based on a series of generic models such as visual, multimodal, and natural language models, combined with RAG retrieval enhancement technology, and fine tuned and trained on the Alibaba Cloud Elite exclusive platform. Currently, the best landing scenario is lunar impact crater recognition. The size, depth, and shape of impact craters are important criteria for studying the geological evolution of the moon. According to statistics, the number of lunar impact craters with a diameter of over one kilometer on the moon has exceeded one million, and the number of impact craters with a diameter of less than one kilometer is still uncertain. If relying entirely on manual labor, it is almost impossible to identify all lunar impact craters, and the application of large-scale models will greatly improve the efficiency of this work. Liu Jianzhong, a researcher at the Institute of Geochemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that the accuracy rate of the professional large model of the moon has reached more than 80% in the identification of the age and shape of the lunar impact crater. Researchers only need to input images of lunar impact craters and related questions, and the large model can call general visual and multimodal models to determine the modal type corresponding to the image from 17 multimodal data such as spectrum, elevation, gravity, etc; By searching the knowledge base and calling the general language model, the specialized lunar model can answer questions related to the shape, size, and age of the impact crater, and provide the reasoning process. By accurately grasping massive amounts of data, large models can not only classify impact craters, but also solve some scientific problems that have not yet been solved, "said Liu Jianzhong. Artificial intelligence is bringing unprecedented opportunities for the scientific research of the moon and planets Ouyang Ziyuan, an academician of the CAS Member and the first chief scientist of China's lunar exploration project, said that with the rapid progress of human deep space exploration activities, the exploration data has grown in a blowout manner, and scientific big data has become a powerful engine to promote scientific and technological innovation. In terms of data management, China has already gained a first mover advantage; In terms of data application, China must fully leverage the existing advantages of artificial intelligence technology. The lunar professional large-scale model will greatly accelerate the processing of massive data and help researchers discover new scientific discoveries. (New Society)
