The newly paved asphalt pavement is emitting steam, with more than ten construction vehicles and rollers busy shuttling back and forth, and more than 50 workers working together in a tense and orderly manner... On the 27th local time, the road construction of the upgrading and renovation project of the Malawikapetenga to Benga Highway (hereinafter referred to as the Kaben Highway), which was constructed by China Railway 20th Bureau, kicked off comprehensively. On August 27th, in Nkotakota, Malawi, construction workers paved asphalt pavement on the upgraded and renovated project section. According to Xinhua News Agency, Aweyrtong Mufune is a local resident of Malawi who is responsible for leading a team to strictly test various indicators of the project during the construction process. I hope to work with my Chinese colleagues to contribute to my hometown and make the Kaben Highway a high-quality and beautiful road, "said Mufune. The Kaben Highway is located along the coast of Lake Malawi, the third largest freshwater lake in Africa. It is part of the Malawi National Highway M5 and runs north-south, with a total length of 60 kilometers. The construction project aims to upgrade and renovate the existing road surface, which is one of the important infrastructure construction projects planned by the Malawi government. Construction will begin in November 2022 and is expected to be completed in August next year. Cheng Jun, the project manager of China Railway 20th Bureau, introduced that since the start of the project, Chinese and Malaysian employees have overcome difficulties such as rainy season floods, high temperatures, and material shortages together to ensure the orderly progress of the project. In terms of construction, China has invested in large-scale intelligent asphalt mixing plants and pavers, using high-quality technology of continuous paving by pavers to ensure construction quality from both equipment and personnel aspects. In terms of talent cultivation, since the start of the project, China has trained more than 100 local technical talents and helped nearly 50 local employees enter management positions, making contributions to the local area in imparting labor skills and improving employment levels. It is reported that China Railway 20th Bureau has carried out more than 10 infrastructure projects in Malawi since 2018, employing over 5000 local employees and cultivating nearly 1000 local professional and technical talents through mentorship and targeted training. In the view of Emmanuel Guazantini, an employee of the Malaysian side, the upgrading and renovation of the Kaben Highway is expected to become a "road to prosperity" for the local area. We look forward to the early upgrading and renovation of this highway, which will greatly improve the transportation situation between the north and south of Malawi, and effectively promote the development of agriculture, fisheries, and tourism in the villages along the route
