On the afternoon of August 29th, President Xi Jinping met with US National Security Advisor Sullivan at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Xi Jinping pointed out that in the face of a turbulent and intertwined international situation, countries need to unite and cooperate, rather than engage in division and confrontation; The people hope for open progress, not closed regression. As two major countries, China and the United States should be responsible for history, their people, and the world, becoming a stable source of world peace and a driving force for common development.
Xi Jinping emphasized that in dealing with the two major powers of China and the United States, the first priority is to establish a correct strategic understanding and answer the overall question of whether China and the United States are opponents or partners. China's foreign policy is open and transparent, with clear and transparent strategic intentions, maintaining a high degree of continuity and stability. We focus on doing our own things well, continuously improving and developing the socialist system with Chinese characteristics that is in line with China's national conditions through further comprehensive deepening of reforms. China adheres to the path of peaceful development, and while achieving its own development, is also willing to work together with other countries to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
Xi Jinping pointed out that China maintains a high degree of coherence in its policy towards the United States. Although there have been significant changes in the respective situations and relations between China and the United States, China's commitment to the goal of stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China US relations has not changed. The principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation in handling China US relations have not changed. China's firm stance on safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and development interests has not changed, and its efforts to continue the traditional friendship between the Chinese and American people have not changed. We hope that the United States will move towards China with a positive and rational attitude towards China and its development, viewing each other's development as an opportunity rather than a challenge. Together with China, we can find the correct way for China and the United States, two countries with different civilizations, systems, and paths, to coexist peacefully and develop together on Earth, promote the stability of China US relations, and strive to improve and move forward on this basis.
Sullivan conveyed President Biden's greetings to President Xi Jinping, thanked him for taking the time to meet, and stated that since the San Francisco meeting between the US and China heads of state, both sides have earnestly implemented the consensus reached by the two heads of state and made positive progress. My strategic communication with Director Wang Yi during my visit to China was in-depth, candid, substantive, and constructive.     The US hopes to continue maintaining strategic communication with China and find ways for peaceful coexistence and sustained development of US China relations.
Xi Jinping asked Sullivan to convey his greetings to President Biden and expressed willingness to continue communication with him to steer and guide the China US relations.
Wang Yi attended the meeting.
