2024-08-27
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated on the 26th that China has always been a strong promoter of Africa's exploration of new paths for modernization and development, and an important contributor to opening up new paths for poverty reduction. China is willing to take the 2024 Forum on China Africa Cooperation summit as an opportunity to continue to work together with Africa to promote the poverty reduction process. At the regular press conference that day, a reporter asked: Recently, many African media and scholars have been paying attention to China Africa poverty reduction cooperation, believing that it has brought new hope for Africa to achieve food self-sufficiency, eliminate poverty, and improve people's livelihoods. What is the spokesperson's comment on this? How to evaluate the significance of China Africa cooperation in poverty reduction in Africa? Lin Jian stated that eradicating poverty is a common mission of humanity and a common aspiration of the African people. Poverty reduction has always been an important component of China Africa cooperation, from the "Ten Major Cooperation Plans" to the "Nine Projects". For many years, we have adhered to the concept of sincerity, honesty, and justice, actively implemented the "Outline for Strengthening China Africa Poverty Reduction Cooperation" between China and the African Union, and carried out poverty reduction exchanges and cooperation under the framework of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation, achieving remarkable results. He introduced that in the "Poverty Reduction and Agricultural Benefit Project", China has approved and implemented 47 poverty reduction and agricultural projects, trained nearly 9000 agricultural talents, promoted more than 300 advanced and applicable technologies, and benefited more than one million small farmers in Africa. Chinese mushroom and grass technology has driven the income increase of hundreds of thousands of people in the local area. Chinese hybrid rice has increased the average rice production in many African countries from 2 tons per hectare to 7.5 tons. Chinese experts have established rice poverty reduction demonstration villages, making "everyone has food and savings" a reality. Chinese enterprises have established agricultural cooperation parks and agricultural product processing plants, greatly enhancing the added value of local agricultural products. China's establishment of a "green channel" for the export of African agricultural products to China has brought a large number of high-quality African agricultural products into China. In the "Hundred Enterprises, Thousand Villages" project, China has implemented 320 social responsibility projects in non enterprise areas, benefiting over 10000 village communities. China has also held multiple poverty reduction exchange and training courses for grassroots cadres in Africa to share their experience in poverty reduction. Lin Jian said that China Africa cooperation actively contributes to the industrialization process of the African continent and enhances the local economy's ability for independent development. The cooperation parks in which China participates in investment, such as Nigeria's Lekki Free Trade Zone and the China Egypt Teda Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, have greatly promoted African countries' foreign investment promotion and helped "African manufacturing" go global through industrial clusters. China has built 17 Luban workshops in 15 African countries to promote local employment. He stated that China has always been a powerful driving force for Africa to explore new paths of modernization and development, and an important contributor to opening up new paths for poverty reduction. We are willing to take the upcoming 2024 Forum on China Africa Cooperation summit as an opportunity to continue working together with Africa to promote poverty reduction and create a better future for the African people
