The world's largest liquid air energy storage project compressor unit is offline

Recently, the compressor unit of the 60 MW liquid air energy storage demonstration project in Golmud, Qinghai was offline in Yingkou, Liaoning. This is the world's largest liquid air energy storage project compressor unit. After completion, this project will become the world's largest demonstration project in terms of power generation and energy storage scale in the field of liquid air energy storage. This project adopts a new generation of liquid air energy storage technology, based on low-temperature air liquefaction and cold storage technology, storing electrical energy in the form of liquefied air at normal pressure, low temperature, and high density. It has outstanding advantages such as large-scale long-term energy storage, clean and low-carbon, safe, long-lasting, and not limited by geographical conditions. The project also uses nationally produced equipment. The compressor unit is the core dynamic equipment in this project. Based on the technical requirements and characteristics of the project construction site, such as high altitude, storage and development time, safety and reliability, Shengu Group has proposed a three-stage compression and first stage centrifugal direct connection compressor system solution. The maximum diameter of the first stage compressor impeller is 2 meters, and the total weight of the whole machine exceeds 300 tons, making it the world's largest horizontal split centrifugal compressor. The unit has achieved multiple technological innovations by improving and optimizing the axial intake structure, resulting in a 2% to 3% increase in compressor efficiency. By applying advanced control systems, the whole machine can be quickly started and stopped with just one click, which can meet the requirements of energy storage technology. Apply unit life optimization technology to ensure that the unit has anti fatigue characteristics and ensures long-term stable operation. (New Society)
