The press conference for the new book "The Great World Civilization of Ancient Egypt" hosted by China Encyclopedia Press was recently held in Shanghai. This is the first book in the "Great World Civilization" series, and later themed books such as Ancient China, Ancient Rome, and Ancient Africa will be released. The Great World Civilization of Ancient Egypt is divided into 7 chapters, with the 31 dynasties of ancient Egypt and the Greco Roman era as the main theme, interspersed with introductions to multiple themes such as tomb culture, art works, archaeological relics, historical figures, daily life, etc. This book is not only focused on pharaohs, but also on the lives of commoners. The book contains 7 3D restoration images, 28 schematic diagrams, and over 500 high-definition images, recreating the glory of ancient Egypt. Jiang Lijun, Deputy Editor in Chief of China Encyclopedia Press, introduced the plan to introduce and publish the "Great World Civilization" series, aiming to showcase the forms and characteristics of human civilization in different regions to readers through books, and promote understanding and exchange of civilizations in different regions. The Great World Civilization of Ancient Egypt "is the first book in this series, which follows the dynastic changes of ancient Egypt and showcases historical events and cultural heritage spanning 3000 years, as well as the most representative treasures, buildings, and archaeological sites of various eras in ancient Egyptian society. Li Feng, Deputy Director of Shanghai Museum, introduced the exhibition "Top of the Pyramid: Ancient Egyptian Civilization Exhibition" currently on display at the museum. This is the largest special exhibition since the establishment of the Shanghai Museum, featuring 788 Egyptian national treasures, attracting visitors from all over the country and sparking a viewing frenzy. Many innovative and interesting ideas were proposed in the exhibition, such as launching cultural and creative products with Egyptian themes and establishing pet friendly museums. The release of the book 'The Great World Civilization of Ancient Egypt' is timely and complements the exhibition. Reading this book before the exhibition can help the audience accumulate a lot of knowledge about ancient Egypt and provide a good auxiliary effect for the exhibition. Bai Jie, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Cultural Heritage, had worked at the Capital Museum for a long time and shared his experience in translating "The Great World Civilization of Ancient Egypt" as a museum curator and translator. "When considering the translation, special attention was paid to presenting it in a language that is easy for Chinese readers to understand through storytelling. In response to the confusion of audiences who have not formed corresponding knowledge accumulation after visiting museums, Bai Jie believes that science popularization books can complement the museum knowledge graph and become auxiliary tools for audiences to learn independently, helping enthusiasts absorb and accumulate more knowledge. Tu Yunkun, the organizer of Bilibili UP's "Museum of Giants", summarized from the perspective of Egyptology that this book not only keeps up with the latest academic viewpoints, but also comprehensively introduces various aspects of ancient Egyptian life in addition to the burial culture of ancient Egypt, presenting readers with a vibrant and more down-to-earth ancient civilization. He particularly pointed out that when readers read this book, comparing ancient Egyptian culture with ancient Chinese culture, especially Qin and Han culture, can provide a deeper understanding of the content in the book.
