2645 meters! Dagang Oilfield breaks the record for the longest tail pipe under lateral drilling in China
2024-08-15
Recently, during the development of its subsidiary Zhaodong Oilfield in Bohai Bay, Dagang Oilfield broke the record for the longest tail pipe and cementing operation in domestic lateral drilling with a length of 2645 meters, successfully completing the tail pipe and cementing operations. Zhaodong Oilfield is located in the extremely shallow sea area of Bohai Bay. Due to the characteristics of offshore development, the number of wellheads in the oilfield is limited. Developing new oil wells usually requires opening windows on the inner side of the casing of old oil wells, and then continuing to extract oil. Such oil wells are also known as lateral drilling. At present, there are nearly 200 wellheads in Zhaodong Oilfield, but there are as many as nearly 400 underground boreholes, and some old oil wells have been reused four times. This has achieved intensive utilization of resources, but it faces challenges such as difficulty in preventing collisions and detours between underground boreholes, difficulty in transporting rock debris from boreholes, and easy resistance and circulation blockage during casing installation. Guo Haitao, Director of the Capacity Construction Center in Zhaodong Oil Production Management Area of Dagang Oilfield, introduced that in the face of technical difficulties in production, Dagang Oilfield fully utilizes information technology and intelligent means in the drilling process, and realizes professional integrated collaborative tracking and analysis through real-time drilling data transmission system and remote logging transmission system. In the recent process of casing installation in lateral drilling, a series of technical breakthroughs were carried out, and after 39 hours, the casing and cementing operations were successfully completed. From drilling to completion, it took a total of 16.5 days, with a length of 2645 meters, breaking the record for the longest tail pipe installation in lateral drilling in China. Guo Haitao stated that the tail pipe of this lateral drilling operation saves 30% of the time compared to the same type in China, and significantly saves budget funds. The breaking of this drilling record provides a reference for similar lateral drilling in China, and also provides more domestic tools and technical reserves for the development of offshore oil fields in China.
