On the 11th, it was learned that the social practice team of East China Normal University, together with the Dongba Culture Research Institute in Lijiang City, has successfully developed and released an intelligent translation system for Dongba ancient books based on language and writing theory and various artificial intelligence technologies. It is reported that Dongba script is a unique writing system of the Naxi people, with over 1400 individual characters. It is currently the only surviving pictographic script in the world and is known as the "living fossil" of writing. The Dongba Ancient Book Intelligent Translation System is supported by the study of Dongba script theory, based on a large amount of image and speech data provided by the Dongba Culture Research Institute in Lijiang City. It comprehensively adopts various artificial intelligence technologies such as image processing, deep learning, and large models, and has initially achieved intelligent recognition and recitation functions of Dongba ancient books. However, the inheritance of Dongba script faced difficulties, and the road to digitization was particularly difficult. The diversity and non standardization of characters made this process complex and challenging. On the same day, East China Normal University told reporters that the successful development of the Dongba Ancient Book Intelligent Translation System is a major breakthrough in intelligent education technology and a strong support for the protection of ethnic minority cultures. This system provides new technological support for the recognition, translation, and research of Dongba script, accelerating the re interpretation and dissemination of the deep meaning of this ancient script in modern contexts. Zhou Aimin, Dean of the School of Computer Science and Technology at East China Normal University and Dean of the Shanghai Institute of Intelligent Education, said, "In November 2021, I had the privilege of visiting Lijiang for the first time and personally experiencing the splendid Naxi culture and the charm of the lost Dongba script. My heart was filled with emotions and I deeply realized that it is our responsibility to protect and promote excellent national culture." In the following three years, East China Normal University and Lijiang Normal University collaborated closely with the Dongba Cultural Research Institute in Lijiang to develop an intelligent translation system for Dongba ancient books, wrote a "Dongba Script Pictography Reader" for young people and readers interested in Dongba script, and developed a series of Dongba script inheritance education courses. These textbooks and courses not only provide the public with a convenient way to learn Dongba language, but also lay a solid foundation for the long-term protection and sustainable development of Dongba culture. It is reported that the social practice team of East China Normal University conducted on-site teaching at Lijiang Primary School in Yunnan Province, focusing on the previously developed "Dongba Pictography Reader" and "Dongba Inheritance Education Curriculum", and investigated the application of new forms of textbooks in the classroom.
