The global tablet market is recovering
2024-08-09
Recently, market research firm Canalys released the latest data showing that global tablet shipments increased by 18% year-on-year in the second quarter of this year, reaching 35.9 million units. This data marks the recovery and growth of the tablet industry after years of turbulence. From the perspective of manufacturers, Apple continues to consolidate its leading position in the global tablet market, with a shipment volume of 13.9 million units in the second quarter, accounting for 39% of the market share. Samsung ranked second with a shipment volume of 6.8 million units, a year-on-year increase of 13%, thanks to the strong performance of its flagship models and the surge in demand from emerging markets in the Asia Pacific region. Huawei, driven by strong demand in the domestic and EMEA markets, has maintained its position as the third largest seller in terms of shipment volume, with a shipment volume of 2.5 million units, a year-on-year increase of 51%. Lenovo strengthened its global business layout and ranked fourth, with a shipment volume of 2.5 million units, a year-on-year increase of 16%. It is worth mentioning that Xiaomi surpassed Amazon with an astonishing growth rate of 106%, ranking fifth with a shipment volume of 2.1 million units. The recovery of the global tablet market is due to the combined effect of multiple factors. Firstly, the launch of new products coincides with the rebound in demand for periodic updates, resulting in a significant increase in shipment volume. Secondly, with the increasing demand from consumers for mobile office, online education, and entertainment, the demand for tablets has also significantly increased. Finally, domestic manufacturers have actively adjusted their market strategies, not only promoting the popularity of tablets in China and showing strong growth momentum in the domestic tablet market, but also expanding their business to international markets, especially in the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe, where tablet shipments have increased. In response to this market trend, analysts from Konas stated that innovations in display technology and integrated artificial intelligence functions will further attract consumer attention, and it is expected that the tablet market will further improve in the second half of the year. The recovery of the global tablet market has provided new development opportunities for major brands, who are planning to launch new products to better meet user needs. On August 6th, Huawei released a new MatePad Air, which not only continues its consistent high standard craftsmanship and innovative concept, but also features a self-developed artificial intelligence (AI) model, becoming a new generation of AI productivity tablet. At the same time, Apple also plans to launch an entry-level iPad and an upgraded version of the iPad mini before the end of this year. Overall, the strong growth of the global tablet market in the second quarter has brought positive signals to the entire industry. With the development and application of technologies such as 5G and artificial intelligence, as well as the continuous maturity of the market, tablet computers are moving towards a more intelligent and functional direction. Looking ahead, the tablet market is expected to continue its growth momentum, but at the same time, market competition will further intensify. Faced with fierce market competition, major manufacturers need to continue to increase their research and development efforts, optimize product design, improve service quality, launch more innovative products, and provide users with more diversified application experiences.
