On the day of Liqiu, many places have folk activities such as timing, sending off summer heat, and praying for a bountiful harvest. In Wuyuan County, Shangrao, Jiangxi Province, people celebrate a bountiful harvest by eating "rice cake soup". In Mount Huangshan, Anhui Province, local people pay attention to "eating autumn". What are "rice cake soup" and "gnawing on autumn"? Let's go find out together. Just after the harvest of early indica rice, a bowl of "rice soup" overflowed in the morning, the villagers of Xiaorong Village, Wuyuan County got busy. They put the newly harvested early indica rice into a stone mill. One person milled it and one person added rice. After repeated grinding, Rice noodles became more smooth and delicate. The milled Rice noodles is mixed with an appropriate amount of glutinous rice flour, and then a small amount of water is added several times to repeatedly mix into rice balls, and then the rice balls are kneaded into solid rice cakes of the same size. After the water boils, pour the rice cakes into the pot one by one. Once the rice cakes are cooked, pour the soup into a bowl filled with cooked seasonal vegetables. This way, a rich and nutritious rice cake soup is served. Huang Taohua, a villager from Xiaorong Village, said: "As an elderly person, we say that 'eating rice cake soup and eating eye light at the beginning of autumn' means that our eyes light up after eating it. Autumn is the time to eat rice soup, as freshly made rice is more nutritious. In Wuyuan County, Shangrao, Jiangxi Province, where crops such as chili peppers, corn, and pumpkins have just been harvested, villagers take advantage of the sunny weather to dry them on the sun racks in front of and behind their homes, creating a beautiful "autumn sun painting" of the mountain village. At the same time, with the harvest of early rice, people celebrate the harvest by eating "rice soup", and the atmosphere of autumn gradually becomes stronger. During the beginning of autumn, sun drying and harvesting is also a traditional agricultural custom that has been passed down for hundreds of years in the local area. In Huangling Village, Wuyuan, villagers clean and cut freshly picked fruits and vegetables such as red chili peppers and pumpkins, hang them on bamboo plaques, and support them with horizontal beams. Due to the fact that most villages in Wuyuan are built along mountains with relatively little flat land, every household has demonstrated their superb skills in "space management" in order to arrange the dried ingredients reasonably and properly. Not only in front of and behind the house, but also the space on the roof is effectively utilized. The food harvested in autumn has become a decoration for every household, and the white walled and black tiled houses in the mountain city are adorned with colorful harvest "brocade clothes". Wu Xianfeng, a villager from Huangling Village: It does not occupy the ground and allows for sun drying, saving the need to move around upstairs and maintaining good hygiene. We have started autumn, and now it is our Dafengshou (Salad of assorted fresh vegetables) season, so we will show it all on the day of the beginning of autumn, feel a bumper harvest season, and hope that the new year will be more prosperous. At the beginning of autumn, every household eats a watermelon to welcome autumn and send off summer. In Qiankou Village, Qiankou Town, Huizhou District, Mount Huangshan City, on the beginning of autumn, local villagers will go together to pick fresh large watermelons in the melon fields and share them with their families, which means "gnawing" to go to the summer heat and drive away the dog days. Child Hu Zitong: My mother-in-law said we need to chew on melons at Liqiu, so today my younger brother and I ate a lot of big and sweet watermelons. After finishing the watermelon, don't lose the skin. Here, melon peels can also be made into delicious dishes. First, peel off the outer thin layer of the melon skin, then cut it into strips. Put it in a bowl and marinate it with white sugar for one hour. Then put it in a pot and stir fry slowly over low heat until the melon skin turns golden and soft, and a sweet and creamy sugar coated watermelon skin is ready. Zhan Weiwei, a villager from Qiankou Village, Qiankou Town, Huizhou District: Our watermelon dishes are delicious and tasty, and the meaning is also very good, symbolizing eating away the summer heat and welcoming the coolness of autumn. If you don't like sweets, it's okay. Watermelon rind can also be stir fried with eggs, which is not only crisp and refreshing, but also nutritious. In addition, watermelon rind can also be cold mixed and made into delicious dishes such as Anhui style vegetarian goose necks. Hu Shibin, a researcher of Mount Huangshan Huizhou Culture Research Institute: According to historical records, in villages and ancestral temples during the Ming and Qing dynasties, local sages would "chew autumn". On the one hand, it is to celebrate the harvest and taste the joy of labor. On the other hand, it is also to have a beautiful hope for the upcoming autumn and winter, and even for the coming year.
