Gao Wen: Digital technology 'foundation' supports high-quality development of low altitude economy
2024-08-08
The development of low altitude economy cannot be separated from the support of digital infrastructure. Gao Wen, an academician of the CAE Member and director of Pengcheng Laboratory, said in an interview that from a technical point of view, low altitude networks still need to overcome many difficulties. If there is no real low altitude flight infrastructure as a guarantee, only the current 4G and 5G will be used to do it, which is far from the goal of high-quality development of low altitude economy. We need to make up for this technical weakness. The industry generally agrees that a stable and reliable communication and perception network is a prerequisite for the smooth operation of the low altitude economy in the forward-looking layout of low altitude infrastructure. Gao Wen proposed that to promote high-quality development of the low altitude economy, three "bases" should be built, namely the policy base, the digital technology base, and the service base. Among them, the "foundation" of digital technology is a core factor in whether the low altitude economy can be smoothly developed. Relying solely on 4G and 5G networks is not enough to support the development of low altitude economy Gao Wen believes that in addition to solving communication problems, low altitude networks should also focus on addressing perception issues. So it must have both network communication function and perception ability, that is, both communication and perception are necessary, which is integrated. The existing 4G and 5G communication networks mainly cover the ground and buildings, and the air is not its main coverage area. For example, in planning air routes, whether the signals at every point can meet the requirements, or whether the strength and bandwidth are sufficient, but these aspects are still lacking Gao Wen said. Due to the lack of necessary sensing capabilities in 4G and 5G networks, they are unable to effectively monitor activities within the airspace. Gao Wen believes that the development of low altitude networks requires the ability to perceive and identify and monitor drones and other aircraft in the airspace. This is the main technical bottleneck for the current development of low altitude economy and an urgent problem that needs to be solved as soon as possible. At present, certain breakthroughs have been made in low altitude communication perception networks. The low altitude economic key technology verification platform constructed by Pengcheng Laboratory can achieve low altitude environment reconstruction with meter level granularity, with a sensing distance of over 1km and an edge communication rate of not less than 50Mbps. This platform can achieve reliable, robust, and secure low altitude three-dimensional network coverage, improving the monitoring and management level of aircraft in low altitude environments. To truly excel in low altitude networks, there are still many lessons to be learned In Gao Wen's view, low altitude networks are still in their early stages, and computing power networks can actually help low altitude networks solve some of the problems they encounter. The computing power network will support the development of low altitude economy in the digital economy era. As a cutting-edge technology, the computing power network will play a supporting role in the development of low altitude economy. The exterior view of the first fully autonomous and controllable E-level intelligent computing power platform "Pengcheng Cloud Brain" network intelligent major technology infrastructure. Although drones and other aircraft are not directly related to computing power, the low altitude network they rely on is closely related to computing power. The low altitude economy also has a demand for computing power, such as logistics and distribution. In the future, the application of low altitude economy requires cloud computing support, which must be very strong, very accurate, and real-time. Gao Wen said that ensuring smooth and safe low altitude operations and real-time insights cannot be separated from the support of computing power networks. Gao Wen uses autonomous driving as an analogy. He said that due to the constantly changing road conditions and signal indications, autonomous driving needs to rely on AI large model training and real-time updates every day. The principle of low altitude positioning is the same. New buildings will also be encountered in the air, and route scheduling and management will also change at any time. This requires the support of computing power networks to ensure that some data of low altitude public services can be timely and accurately transmitted back. Gaowen predicts that for the low altitude economy, the computing power network will initially focus on ToB scenarios and gradually expand to support ToC services for major clients. Wherever computing power is needed, it can be slowly supported through a computing power network. The computing power network itself is two keywords, one is computing power and the other is the internet, both of which are indispensable Gao Wen believes that first and foremost, there must be sufficient computing power, which may be a collection of numerous computing powers or a single computing power. The network is a communication network between computing power or between computing power and end-users, which must ensure real-time, security, and reliability. The logic of computing power networks is consistent with that of power networks, but it may take decades for computing power networks to develop to the same level as the power grid, "said Gao Wen. At present, three key areas have been formed: supercomputing, intelligent computing, and general computing power. Gao Wen believes that the supply of computing power needs to be adjusted in a timely manner according to market changes, and the scale of computing power will also change with changes in demand. Through the computing power network, the continuous improvement of national network infrastructure will be promoted. Computing power is transmitted through the network, sending data and results back Gao Wen believes that with the promotion of the "East Data West Calculation" strategic layout, the computing power network will play an important role in promoting industrial transformation and upgrading.
