Russia masters the technology of using satellites to control drones

2024-08-07

According to Russian media reports, the "Messenger" satellite system company under the Russian National Space Corporation recently announced that it has completed its first test of controlling a drone through a satellite. The report states that using satellites to control drones is to track them in areas without other means of communication. The relevant experiments were jointly conducted by the "Messenger" satellite system company and a drone company. To test related technologies, the research team used a drone carrying a "Messenger" satellite test model and simplified antennas to complete ground and field flight tests, effectively evaluating the ability to establish communication, transmit drone telemetry data to satellites, and send ground control station instructions to drones through satellites. The head of the "Messenger" satellite system company stated that the successful testing of this technology will take the development of Russian drones to a new level, while also creating conditions for the development and use of large long-range drones in Russia. Currently, countries such as the United States have mastered this technology. (New Society)
