Save money and protect the environment. The second-hand idle market size has exceeded one trillion yuan

2024-08-07

As an important component of green consumption, the idle trading market has been growing in size in recent years. However, issues such as mismatched products and difficulties in safeguarding rights have also to some extent affected the trading experience. The flourishing idle transactions still need to fill the gap in standardization. Idle small appliances, used clothes, and endless cosmetics... Nowadays, the concept of "buying new rather than old" has changed, and many people actively choose to buy and sell second-hand idle items. For people, idle trading is not only a frugal behavior that can save money while practicing environmental protection concepts, but also a new way of life that seeks individuality and cultural circles. Data shows that currently, the daily average transaction volume of idle goods in China has exceeded 1 billion yuan, and 4 million idle items are released on the platform every day. The scale of the second-hand idle market has exceeded one trillion yuan. The Action Plan for Promoting Large scale Equipment Renewal and Consumer Goods Trade in recently issued by the State Council proposes to implement recycling and reuse actions to support the circulation and trading of second-hand goods. The "second-hand economy" characterized by green consumption has ushered in new development opportunities. At the same time, in the face of conflicts and disputes in some transactions, the thriving idle trading market still needs to fill the gap in standardization. Waste becomes consumption, and second-hand goods have many benefits. "Sofas, refrigerators, wardrobes... almost all of my household appliances and furniture are second-hand," Zhang Yi, who lives in Haidian District, Beijing, told reporters. Since she was assigned to a talent public rental housing, she joined the idle transaction mutual aid group in her community and found many good household items from it. Brand new furniture is not only expensive, but also raises concerns about formaldehyde pollution. For renters, second-hand furniture is clearly more cost-effective Zhang Yi believes that in addition to affordable prices, buying and selling idle items also demonstrates the green and low-carbon lifestyle attitude of young people. As long as the quality of old items is up to standard, they can be completely recycled to avoid waste. In addition, many young people's idle transactions are not limited to conventional old items, and transactions based on personal interests also include many niche items. Wu Hao is a cycling enthusiast who enjoys collecting classical road bikes on a regular basis. Ten years ago, road cars could only be found in the second-hand market, with a sense of history bestowed by time, "said Wu Hao. In Wu Hao's view, idle trading is not just an economic activity, but also forms a unique cultural circle in the trading process. After 'hanging' things he likes online, it's easier to meet like-minded people through inquiries and transactions, "said Wu Hao. Through the second-hand trading platform, he made many friends. In addition to buying and selling idle items, everyone also discusses car models and exchanges their own collection experiences in the group. In recent years, with the rapid development of idle transactions, various types of transaction disputes have also occurred from time to time. During the interview, many people shared their experiences with the reporter. "I once bought powder on an online second-hand trading platform, and the page said" genuine ". When I got it, I found it was a fake, which was totally different from the texture bought at the counter before." Consumer Wang Ning said that she only found out after checking the seller's information that their homepage was filled with various low-priced "big brand" cosmetics resale information, and they were not individual sellers at all, so it was impossible to verify whether the products were genuine. Liu Yanyan has also bought second-hand goods that are not in the correct version. She once bought a tablet computer on a second-hand online trading platform, and the buyer claimed that they had a new model, so they came up with an old one to "get back blood". However, not long after Liu Yanyan used it, he was told that the tablet was actually a refurbished machine because he had damaged the screen and had it repaired. Later on, I went to the seller specifically to argue, but they refused to admit that it was a refurbished machine and also refused to return it, "Liu Yanyan said. Not only buyers, but also sellers often face the dilemma of safeguarding their rights in idle transactions. For example, after receiving the goods, the buyer haggles for various reasons and refuses to pay according to the negotiated price, which can lead to a sales dispute. Sometimes, sellers may encounter fraudulent behaviors such as malicious returns, malicious damage to items, and theft during returns and exchanges by buyers. Wu Hao once resold a German speaker on an online second-hand trading platform, but the buyer requested Wu Hao to lower the price again, citing that the single-sided metal sheet was not smooth enough. My speaker is brand new and unopened, so of course I don't want to be 'stabbed'. In the end, I went through the platform's' small court 'procedure, but I was still ruled as the loser. It's difficult to achieve complete fairness in this kind of transaction dispute resolution, "said Wu Hao. Guiding the facilitation and standardization of idle trading: "Developing the idle economy, allowing products to be fully utilized throughout their entire lifecycle, not only saves buyers money, but also provides additional economic returns for sellers. It enhances the competitiveness of third-party platform enterprises and is conducive to social and economic development." An industry insider told reporters that idle trading, as an important component of green consumption, reduces resource waste and helps promote the green and low-carbon transformation of economic and social development. In February of this year, the General Office of the State Council issued the "Opinions on Accelerating the Construction of a Waste Recycling System", which requires strengthening the efficient utilization of renewable resources and guiding the facilitation and standardization of second-hand commodity transactions. In this regard, some industry insiders believe that as a link between trading parties, the platform should take the initiative to assume responsibility, establish systems for certification, evaluation, and punishment, improve after-sales mechanisms, open up channels for both parties to protect their rights, respond promptly to rights protection demands, handle relevant disputes, and strive to solve trust problems in idle transactions. Unlike the high market penetration rate of second-hand houses and cars, many idle products in China have not entered the recycling, re circulation, or disposal channels due to scattered recycling channels Lai Yang, member of the Expert Committee of the China Chamber of Commerce and Executive Vice President of the Beijing Society of Business Economics, said. Only when consumers are willing to participate in the second-hand goods market can a circular link be opened up, allowing idle goods to be truly utilized to their fullest potential Lai Yang suggests that in the future, it is necessary to further develop offline operational channels to provide a platform for a wider range of idle transactions.
