The reporter learned from China Railway Nanning Group Co., Ltd. that as of August 2nd, the transportation of goods by rail sea intermodal trains on the Western Land Sea New Channel has exceeded 500000 TEUs this year, the highest level in history for the same period. Since the promulgation and implementation of the Overall Plan for the Western Land Sea New Corridor 5 years ago, the cumulative transportation of goods by rail sea intermodal trains on the Western Land Sea New Corridor has exceeded 3.1 million TEUs. On August 2nd, the X9586 Western Land Sea New Channel Iron Sea Intermodal Train, loaded with goods such as cassava starch from Thailand, departed from Qinzhou Port East Station in Guangxi and headed towards Sichuan. Since the beginning of this year, the new channel has added 5 scheduled train routes, and the transportation volume of sugar and auto parts by sea has increased by 43% and 69% respectively year-on-year. The Western Land Sea New Corridor is located in the hinterland of western China, connecting the Silk Road Economic Belt to the north and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road to the south, and synergistically linking with the Yangtze River Economic Belt. It has an important strategic position in the regional coordinated development pattern. The "friend circle" of the Western Land Sea New Corridor rail sea intermodal train has expanded from 14 provinces in China to 18 provinces, and the flow of goods has increased from 190 ports in 90 countries and regions worldwide to 518 ports in 124 countries and regions worldwide. The transportation of container goods has grown from 94000 TEUs in 2019 to 861000 TEUs in 2023. Nowadays, the railway sea intermodal trains of the Western Land Sea New Corridor have expanded from the initial "one line" to "one network". At present, the key projects of the Chongzuo to Pingxiang section of the Nanbian high-speed railway, which directly connects to the border cities between China and Vietnam, have been basically completed. It is expected to be completed and opened to traffic next year, and the transportation capacity of the main railway line of the channel will be further improved. (New Society)
