According to the website of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, on July 29th, the "Regulations on the Protection and Inheritance of Sichuan Opera in Sichuan Province" (hereinafter referred to as the "Regulations") were passed at the 14th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th People's Congress of Sichuan Province and will officially come into effect on September 1, 2024. The Regulation includes basic principles, applicable objects, subject responsibilities, protection and inheritance measures, Sichuan Chongqing cooperation, and other contents. The Regulation has made targeted provisions to address some of the problems encountered in the protection and inheritance of Sichuan Opera. In addition, the collaboration between Sichuan and Chongqing is a major feature of this legislation. The Regulation is a collaborative legislative project jointly determined by the People's Congress of Sichuan and Chongqing, adopting a "Regulation+Regulation" model, striving to achieve "similarities but differences". The Regulation clarifies the cooperation mechanism, content, and methods for promoting the protection and inheritance of Sichuan Opera in collaboration between Sichuan and Chongqing. At the same time, it supports the joint inter provincial and international exchanges of Sichuan Opera between Sichuan and Chongqing, as well as cooperation and exchanges with other genres and art forms.
