The reporter learned from the Ministry of Justice that recently, the Central Ministry of Social Work, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Justice jointly issued the "Opinions on Strengthening the Volunteer Service of Legal Aid in Universities" (hereinafter referred to as the "Opinions"), encouraging and guiding university teachers and students to participate in legal aid volunteer services, providing strong support for the development of legal aid, safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of the people, and promoting the construction of a rule of law society. The Opinion proposes that by 2025, the mechanism for voluntary legal aid services in universities should be basically improved, and the standardized construction of legal aid workstations in universities should be basically completed. By 2035, legal aid volunteer service work will become an important platform for practical education for law teachers and students in universities, and a socialist legal aid volunteer service system with Chinese characteristics will be initially formed. The Opinion proposes eight work requirements, including establishing legal aid workstations, recruiting legal aid volunteers, providing multi-level and diversified services, participating in the handling of legal aid cases, innovating volunteer service methods, and strengthening the application of volunteer service results. It emphasizes that social work, education, and judicial administrative departments in various regions should strengthen work guarantees, enhance coordination and cooperation, and ensure the implementation of various measures. It is reported that legal aid institutions across the country have established more than 400 legal aid workstations based on universities, with a total of 62000 registered legal aid volunteers nationwide.
