According to media reports such as the British Guardian and the US Consumer News and Business Channel, on July 25 local time, OpenAI announced that it was testing a new artificial intelligence (AI) search tool, SearchGPT, which could access information from the Internet in real time, aiming to provide users with more timely and accurate information. The search engine starts with a large text box asking users' What are you looking for? 'After customers enter search content, SearchGPT does not return a simple list of links, but attempts to organize and understand them. In an example provided by OpenAI, the search engine summarized its findings related to music festivals, provided a brief description of the activity, and attached a link at the end. In another example, SearchGPT first explains when to plant tomatoes, and then explains the sub varieties of tomatoes. After the results appear, users can ask follow-up questions or click on the sidebar to open other related links. OpenAI stated that SearchGPT will first be launched among a small group of users and publishers, and may then be promoted on a larger scale. The company ultimately plans to integrate this search feature into ChatGPT, rather than treating it as a standalone product. The report suggests that this may have an impact on Google's dominant engine search. Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, investors in Google's parent company Alphabet have been concerned that OpenAI may seize search market share from Google by providing consumers with a new way to access information online.
