The Chen Canyun Academic Seminar, hosted by the Guangdong Writers Association and the Guangzhou Federation of Literary and Art Circles, was held on the 25th at the Guangdong Literature Museum. Experts and scholars from Beijing, Hunan, Hainan, Xinjiang, and local Guangdong gathered together to discuss Chen Canyun's creative experience and inherit his literary spirit. The picture shows the scene of Chen Canyun's academic seminar. Sun Qiuxia photographed that in 1914, Chen Canyun was born in a poor rural family in Shima Village, Baiyun District, Guangzhou. He grew up in Guangzhou, worked as a shop assistant in Hong Kong, and also moved to Singapore, Malaysia and other places. He is a returned overseas Chinese from Singapore. His novels "Fragrant Seasons", "Wind and Smoke in the Valley", "Tropical Waves", films "Tears of the the Pearl River", "Hidden Sentry in the City of Sheep", and "South China Sea Tide" are the most famous. Chen Canyun's novel "Fragrant Seasons" was born in the early 1960s. He creatively integrated meaningful natural scenery, rich local flavor and the profound theme of "writing for the time", and broke new trends in the new Chinese red literature pedigree, known as "the typical representative of the Pearl River literature". Chen Jiangong, former vice chairman of the Chinese Writers Association, said that he read vivid characters, tranquil water town customs, and beautiful and concise literary language in "Fragrant Four Seasons". Mr. Chen Canyun never avoids the times. When it comes to the fate of his family and country, he does not hide his expression of sharing joys and sorrows with the people. His expression is not lofty and empty, but comes from the depths of his soul. Reading Chen Canyun's novels is a pleasure, and reading his essays also inspires a lot, "said Chen Jiangong. It is understood that "Fragrant Four Seasons" was created by Chen Canyun, who served as the deputy secretary of the Dongguan County Party Committee on a temporary basis. He ate, lived, and worked with farmers, and eventually created it. The local people called him a "barefoot writer". Zhang Peizhong, Secretary of the Party Group and full-time Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Writers Association, stated that it is precisely this spirit of struggle involved in life that led Chen Canyun to ultimately create the novel "Fragrant Four Seasons", which deeply reflects the development of the economy and the transformation of the world by the southern people under the leadership of the Party. He emphasized that writers, like Chen Canyun, must insist that creation must start from life. Associate Professor Cong Zhichen of the Department of Chinese at Peking University believes that Chen Canyun's works can be regarded as a Guangdong sample of Chinese new literature. His descriptions of the local customs and traditions in Lingnan depict the real-life situations of the Lingnan people, and these works have a literary fragrance that comes from the depths of life. He stated that Chen Canyun has always adhered to the pragmatic literary tradition of Guangdong, and his writing closely follows the characters, caring for their conflicted and confused destinies. Among the famous contemporary Chinese writers, Chen Canyun is one of the few literary predecessors who simultaneously served as a poet, novelist, and film playwright. Professor Chen Xi from the Department of Literature at Sun Yat sen University said that there was an important change in Chen Canyun's poetry creation. In the early days, he had a symbolic poetry style, but later he turned to realistic creation. His novel creation also has significant value, as he has a profound understanding of the farmers depicted in his works. (New Society)
