2024-07-26

According to the website of Defense News in the United States, Sweden will purchase hundreds of Patria 6 × 6 armored transport vehicles from Finland at a unit price of 11 million kronor (approximately 1.07 million US dollars) under a European joint research and development program called the "Multi country Common Armored Vehicle System" that it previously joined. Currently, Sweden has signed the first batch of purchase contracts with Finnish manufacturer Patria for a total of 20 vehicles. Patria Corporation stated that the engine and armor components of the new armored personnel carrier will be developed by Swedish suppliers, including Scania, deepening defense cooperation between Finland and Sweden. As a traditional armored wheeled personnel carrier, the Patria 6 × 6 armored personnel carrier has undergone a comprehensive upgrade based on the company's AMV series armored vehicles and XA series armored vehicles. This type of armored transport vehicle is 7.5 meters long, 2.9 meters wide, and 2.5 meters high. The front of the vehicle has a spacious cockpit, and the rear transport compartment can accommodate up to 10 people. The Patria 6 × 6 armored personnel carrier has an effective payload of 8.5 tons and is powered by a turbocharged 5-cylinder diesel engine, with a top speed of 100 kilometers per hour. After installing a water jet propulsion system, this armored personnel carrier has amphibious capability, with a wading depth of 1.5 meters and a maximum speed of 10 kilometers per hour. To better meet the complex needs of modern battlefields, the "Patria" 6 × 6 armored personnel carrier can serve as an independent universal armored vehicle system platform, adopting a multi module design. It can not only provide different configurations to perform various tasks, but also reduce the manufacturing and operating costs of armored vehicles and extend their lifecycle. To improve the survivability of the vehicle, the cab of the Patria 6 × 6 armored personnel carrier is equipped with large areas of bulletproof glass and modular armor protection kit, which can better resist threats such as high explosive grenades, armor piercing shells, landmines, and improvised explosive devices, ensuring the safety of passengers. In terms of weapon configuration, the Patria 6 × 6 armored personnel carrier can be equipped with different types of weapon systems, including multi caliber machine guns, grenade launchers, cannons, self-propelled mortars, etc. In addition, this type of armored personnel carrier is equipped with advanced electronic devices, which can achieve information sharing and network interconnection between vehicles, and improve battlefield situational awareness. In recent years, cooperation between Sweden and Finland in the military field has continued to deepen. In addition to Sweden's procurement of Finnish armored personnel carriers, the two countries also jointly purchased equipment such as light weapons and anti tank weapons from Swedish company Saab Dynamics, and launched the "Nordic Joint Air Force" plan to strengthen cooperation in defense construction. The purchase of 20 Patria 6 × 6 armored personnel carriers by Sweden this time is aimed at accelerating the upgrading of domestic armed forces, improving the mobility and protection capabilities of the troops, and promoting extensive cooperation and technical exchanges with NATO countries such as Finland, especially deepening cooperation in the military field.
