Archaeologists have reconstructed the basic layout of the Sanxingdui ancient city site based on exploration of the existing city walls: the site covers an area of approximately 3.6 square kilometers and runs northwest southeast. The orientation is basically consistent with the previously discovered Qingguan Mountain Palace, as well as the high-grade building foundation and jade workshop newly discovered at the Sanxingdui site from 2022 to 2024. The placement orientation of cultural relics in the pit is also basically consistent with the orientation of the entire Sanxingdui Ancient City. Through the continuous efforts of archaeologists, the layout of Sanxingdui Ancient City is now basically clear: the city is north of the Duck River, a tributary of the Tuojiang River, and the winding Mamu River passes through the city.
