National Health Commission: Health Strategy for Summer Travel
2024-07-23
July 22nd is the Great Heat of the 24 solar terms. On that day, the National Health Commission held a press conference to introduce relevant health knowledge and respond to public concerns. Summer is the peak season for travel. During summer vacation, many parents take their children on trips. In what ways can the public improve the quality and experience of tourism? Huang Yabo, director of the Jiangsu Provincial Center for the Development and Research of Traditional Chinese Medicine, introduced that the weather is most hot and humid during the Great Heat, often resulting in "sauna days", which can easily cause symptoms such as dizziness, palpitations, chest tightness, and excessive sweating. In addition, due to excessive consumption of cold drinks and excessive heat and humidity, gastrointestinal diseases such as diarrhea are also prone to occur in summer. The elderly, children, and people with weak physical and mental health should reduce outdoor activities, avoid high temperature periods as much as possible when going out, and avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight to prevent heatstroke. In terms of daily life, it is important to ensure regular and sufficient sleep. Special attention should be paid to maintaining the spleen and stomach, and the diet should mainly consist of light and easily digestible foods. Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention researcher Chang Zhaorui reminds that before traveling, it is important to pay close attention to the epidemic situation of infectious diseases in the destination, take preventive measures in advance, receive necessary vaccines before traveling abroad, and arrange travel reasonably. When returning from overseas travel, it is necessary to actively cooperate with entry quarantine and truthfully fill out the health declaration card. Perform self health monitoring for 2 to 3 weeks. If any discomfort symptoms such as fever, headache, musculoskeletal pain, rash, etc. occur, seek medical attention promptly and inform of your overseas travel history. Advance understanding of the health status of elderly people, pregnant women, chronic disease patients, and other travelers is conducted by doctors before deciding whether to travel. Summer is also an active period for tick growth and development. Chang Zhaorui stated that products containing 0.5% chlorpyrifos can be used to treat clothes and equipment before outdoor activities, and multiple sprays should be applied during the activity to maintain the protective effect; Simultaneously apply insect repellent containing lemon eucalyptus or mosquito repellent to exposed skin. In the wild, it is advisable to avoid sitting or lying for long periods of time in tick habitats such as grasslands and forests. Try to wear light colored long sleeved pants, shoes that cover your feet, tie up your collar, cuffs, and hems, and avoid drying clothes on grass or trees. Before entering the room, it is necessary to promptly check whether there are ticks attached to jackets, backpacks, and pets. Check areas such as hair, behind the ears, neck, elbow sockets, armpits, and groin that are prone to hiding ticks. If a tick bites the skin, seek professional treatment at a medical institution as soon as possible. (New Society)
