Scholars from multiple countries pragmatically promote sustainable development of resources and environment in Northeast Asia

On the 22nd, the Institute of Northeast Geography and Agroecology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences signed a letter of intent for cooperation with the UNESCO East Asia Regional Office in Changchun, Jilin Province, and signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Sochava Institute of Geography of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences to jointly solve various problems faced by Northeast Asia in the development, utilization and sustainable development of resources and environment. These two collaborations were reached at the 6th International Symposium on Resources, Environment, and Regional Sustainable Development in Northeast Asia held on the same day. More than 200 experts and scholars from countries such as China, Russia, South Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Romania, and the United States attended the seminar. The conference will last for two days, and experts and scholars from various countries will release 75 academic reports on topics such as environmental resource information extraction and assessment, biodiversity conservation and ecosystem management, environmental sustainability and ecological security, and revitalization and sustainable development of border areas. Historical experience has shown that the cross-border nature of the Earth system creates objective prerequisites for international cooperation, and the most important conditions for conducting cross-border cooperation are stable neighborly relations between neighboring countries and the desire to develop economic ties Kirill Ganzei, Director of the Institute of Pacific Geography at the Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, stated that the cooperation between the Russian Far East and Northeast China in protecting the Northeast tiger and leopard has set an example in this regard, which can be used as a reference for all parties. The attending experts emphasized the role of pragmatic cooperation in promoting scientific research. Professor Hojeong Kang from Yonsei University in South Korea introduced that he drew on data from China, North America, and Central Europe in a soil ecosystem study, which covered different types of vegetation and soil data, enabling his research work to proceed smoothly.
