From the successful large-scale trial planting of seedlings in 2019 to the subsequent fruiting and market launch, China's domestic durian industry is showing a trend of accelerated development through policy guidance, technological empowerment, international cooperation and other measures. This is the information learned by the reporter on the 21st from the 2024 China ASEAN Durian Industry Seminar. The reporter learned from the meeting that the main planting areas of domestically produced durian in China are located in Sanya, Baoting, Ledong and other places in Hainan. Data shows that in 2023, about 1400 acres of durian in Sanya will bear fruit, with a yield of about 50 tons, becoming the first batch of domestically produced durian harvested on a large scale. This year, the planting area of durian in Hainan Province has developed to nearly 40000 mu, with a fruit hanging area of about 4000 mu, and an expected output of 250 tons. Hainan was the first in China to successfully test the large-scale planting of durian seedlings in 2019, and continues to expand and strengthen the durian industry. In 2022, Hainan will introduce an action plan to make durian one of the key industries cultivated at the provincial level, providing comprehensive support in scientific research funding, talent introduction, forest land use approval, meteorological information, and accelerating the formulation of local standards and brand building related to durian. On July 20th, the Hainan Academy of Agricultural Sciences and major durian industry institutions in Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia and other countries jointly signed the establishment of the China ASEAN Durian Science and Technology Innovation Alliance. Hainan's first durian tree planting insurance and the first domestically produced durian specialty store also landed in Sanya on the same day. Liu Zuokai, Secretary of the Party Group of Hainan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, stated that currently, in addition to Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and other places are actively exploring the large-scale cultivation of domestically produced durian. With favorable policies and consumer market promotion, China will explore the establishment of a durian industry technology system with independent competitive advantages, and further deepen durian economic and trade cooperation with ASEAN countries to achieve complementary industrial advantages and integrated development.
