More than 300 domestic and foreign experts discuss the protection and development of digital heritage in Beijing

On the 16th, posters showcasing the best practices of digital heritage from around the world attracted many viewers in the exhibition hall of Zhongguancun International Innovation Center in Beijing, from the sharing application of digital cultural heritage on the central axis of Beijing to the interactive experience of digital culture and tourism at Sanxingdui Museum. On that day, the 2024 International Forum on Digitalization of Cultural Heritage Protection with the theme of "Reshaping: New Quality Productivity of Digital Heritage" opened at the Zhongguancun International Innovation Center in Beijing. 308 representatives from over 200 cultural institutions, universities, and enterprises from 20 countries and regions around the world attended the conference to discuss the high-quality development of cultural heritage protection under the digital wave. The forum is jointly organized by Tsinghua University, Haidian District People's Government of Beijing, and the Digital Heritage Professional Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites. This forum has set up sections such as joint national sessions, themed academic sessions, professional inspections of heritage sites, best practice case competitions, and digital heritage exhibitions. During the 4-day conference, attendees will engage in discussions and exchanges on various topics such as historical towns, artificial intelligence, digital grotto temples, archaeological sites, and the Three Mountains and Five Gardens. Over a hundred professional reports and cases from 14 fields including artificial intelligence, spatial information technology, 3D modeling, and heritage conservation ethics will be released during the forum. Yang Bin, Vice President of Tsinghua University, introduced at the meeting that the International Forum on Digitalization of Cultural Heritage Protection was initiated by Tsinghua University in 2010, and has developed from an industry academic conference to a comprehensive platform for academic and industrial exchange and communication. He Yan, Chairman of the Digital Heritage Professional Committee of the China Association for the Protection of Ancient Sites and Sites, stated at this forum that digital heritage protection needs to attract new talents, make good use of new technological tools, and most importantly, have industrial thinking, build new scenarios, and construct innovative models in order to achieve a win-win situation for culture and economy, and form new quality productivity.
