Former US President Trump received enough delegates at the Republican National Convention on the 15th to be officially nominated as the Republican presidential candidate for the 2024 US presidential election. Trump also announced on the same day that he had chosen Ohio Senator James Vance as his running mate. On the same day, Republican Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Mike Johnson officially announced at the convention the nomination of Trump and Vance as Republican presidential and vice presidential candidates. After defeating Hillary Clinton in 2016 and current President Biden in 2020, this will be the third time that the 78 year old Trump has represented the Republican Party in the US presidential election. Earlier that day, Trump announced on his social media platform "Real Social" that he had chosen Vance as his running mate. Vance was born in 1984, elected as a federal senator from Ohio in 2022, and sworn in in January 2023. He was once a fierce critic of Trump, but later became an ally of the former president. On the 13th, Trump was "attempted assassinated" at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and suffered an injury to his right ear. But he arrived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the 14th as originally planned to attend the Republican National Convention from the 15th to the 18th.
