The strategic cooperation signing ceremony between China FAW and Qingdao Municipal Government and the unveiling ceremony of FAW Jiefang (Qingdao) Commercial Vehicle Development Institute were recently held in Laoshan District, Qingdao City. The event released China's first liquid hydrogen fuel electric vehicle - the Jiefang Lantu "Xingyi" liquid hydrogen fuel electric tractor. The Jiefang Lantu "Xingyi" liquid hydrogen fuel electric tractor is driven by liquid hydrogen combustion to generate electricity, equipped with a domestically leading 100 kilogram on-board liquid hydrogen system, and has a range of over 1200 kilometers. The whole vehicle has achieved key technologies such as efficient energy management, utilization of combustion and electric waste heat, and recovery and utilization of liquid hydrogen cooling capacity, with hydrogen consumption as low as 8 kilograms per 100 kilometers. The vehicle adopts technical solutions such as high-strength steel frame and lightweight aluminum suspension, with a total weight of 9.4 tons, making it the lightest in the industry. Ji Yizhi, member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of FAW Jiefang Automobile Co., Ltd., introduced that this liquid hydrogen fuel electric tractor is mainly used in trunk transportation logistics scenarios. They focus on the pain points of short range of new energy vehicles, gather high-quality resources from the industry, and independently create a new chassis platform. This car has six major advantages, including maximum power, lowest hydrogen consumption, longest range, lightest self weight, highest safety, and optimal adaptability. Focusing on hydrogen rich provinces (regions and cities) such as Shandong, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, and Sichuan, and focusing on medium and short distance transportation scenarios such as coal and steel plants with large by-product hydrogen production, FAW Jiefang has also developed and launched the Jiefang Lantu "Star Yi" hydrogen engine tractor. It is the first hydrogen engine vehicle in China that can truly be put into market operation, equipped with an internationally first-class 15 liter hydrogen engine independently developed. It has five major advantages, including high adaptability, high power, high reliability, low cost, and low emissions. At present, the product has completed vehicle performance calibration and reliability testing, and will be put into market trial operation by the end of August. (Lai Xin She)
