The Beijing Municipal Education Commission held a deployment meeting for the work of artificial intelligence general education courses in Beijing municipal universities, clarifying that artificial intelligence general education courses will be offered to all public universities in Beijing from September 2024. At the meeting, the relevant person in charge of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission interpreted the opinions on deepening the reform of professional courses in universities and improving the artificial intelligence literacy ability of college students. It is understood that the artificial intelligence general education course includes four thematic modules: "Basic Theory", "Comprehensive Literacy", "Frontier Expansion", and "Practical Training". The course will provide hierarchical course design and modular course selection for students of different types of schools and majors, strengthen student demand orientation and problem orientation, guide students to develop personalized learning paths, and meet the diverse learning needs of different types of students. The classroom will also use intelligent teaching platforms empowered by large models and other "artificial intelligence+" application scenarios, allowing students to more intuitively experience the deep integration of artificial intelligence and education, and actively participate in the research and development of artificial intelligence technology and scene applications. In addition, Beijing has also proposed to actively promote the cultivation of composite talents with artificial intelligence literacy, and encourage the cross integration of artificial intelligence majors with other majors. Beijing requires all universities to further optimize their talent training programs for various majors, actively increase courses related to artificial intelligence, improve students' artificial intelligence thinking ability, and enable them to learn how to use artificial intelligence methods to solve professional application problems, develop preliminary intelligent solutions for problems, and thus improve their ability to solve professional problems. Introduce advanced artificial intelligence teaching tools, create new teaching scenarios for artificial intelligence, build intelligent teaching platforms, improve intelligent internship and training platforms, strengthen teaching management services, and cultivate high-quality research-oriented, compound, applied, and technical skilled talents in the "artificial intelligence+" education scenario. Beijing will support universities that have already established artificial intelligence related majors to offer modular artificial intelligence courses to students in other majors in the form of minor and micro majors, and support students in interdisciplinary learning of artificial intelligence. Support schools that meet the conditions, actively establish dual degree composite talent training programs and joint bachelor's degree programs for "artificial intelligence+" other majors, encourage cross school exchanges and cooperation, carry out various types of artificial intelligence talent joint training, innovate training mechanisms, improve management models, and enhance education levels. Li Yi, Deputy Secretary of the Education Working Committee of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and Director of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, emphasized that accelerating the cultivation of outstanding talents in the field of artificial intelligence is not only a major strategic measure to enhance China's core competitiveness and improve people's well-being, but also an inevitable path to build a high-level talent highland and an international science and technology innovation highland in Beijing, and promote high-quality development of the capital. To ensure the smooth progress of artificial intelligence education reform, each school should strengthen teaching guarantee, ensure teaching quality, and comprehensively improve the teaching effectiveness of artificial intelligence general courses through policy guidance, resource allocation, teacher team construction, school enterprise cooperation, evaluation system and other measures.
