The Latest Research Achievements of Chinese Experts Promote the Development of hepatitis B Virus Infection Treatment

2024-07-04

The latest research results of Chinese medical experts provide new strategies for promoting new progress in the field of hepatitis B virus infection treatment. Experts from Fudan University Shanghai School of Medicine, the National Children's Medical Center (Shanghai), and the Shanghai Children's Medical Center affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine have jointly developed a new efficient, broad-spectrum, and multifunctional small interfering nucleic acid drug (siHBV) targeting HBV. By combining with a self-developed delivery system, it can effectively inhibit virus antigen expression and replication. This innovative research achievement is published online in the international authoritative journal Signal Transmission and Targeted Therapy. It is reported that chronic hepatitis B (CHB) caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection seriously endangers human health. At this stage, clinical drugs, including interferon and nucleoside analogues, cannot cure chronic hepatitis B. Gene silencing therapy (RNAi) provides an effective means to accelerate the elimination of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). It is understood that the new type of lipid nanoparticle (tLNP) delivery system independently developed by Chinese experts can avoid the clinical application risks caused by related antibodies, and achieve efficient, safe, and liver cell targeted delivery in vivo. According to the research findings, Chinese scholars have achieved HBV virological inhibition through the RNAi mechanism, and effectively activated HBV specific T cell immunity through relevant mechanisms, achieving synergistic enhancement and improving the cure rate.
