The "Sailing Plan" Promotes Contemporary Literature to "Go Global"
2024-07-04
Recently, the "Sailing Plan" literature salon, sponsored by the Chinese Writers Association and jointly organized by the Office of the "New Era Literature Climbing Plan" of the Chinese Writers Association and China Book Import and Export (Group) Co., Ltd., was held in Beijing. Writers such as Ge Fei, Lu Tianming, and Zhang Chu engaged in in-depth exchanges with 26 sinologists from Italy, Chile, Egypt, Argentina, and other countries, representatives from overseas publishing communities, and representatives from member units of the "New Era Literature Climbing Plan" joint conference, building a platform for literary exchange between China and foreign countries. The works "Ascending Spring Terrace", "Along the Way", and "Cloud Falling" selected for the "Sailing Plan" have become the focus of discussion in the salon. "Ascending Spring Terrace" is the latest full-length novel released by Mao Dun Literature Award winner Feifei in four years. Ge Fei mentioned that modern novels constantly expand the boundaries of human understanding of the world and oneself, and writers should strive to capture the light of the soul, find and establish a true connection between people and the times. In "Along the Way," the author Lu Tianming returns to the historical scene and tells the struggle and fate of a generation of idealists. "Cloud Falling" is an epic of the soul of a small person, as well as a history of the development and transformation of counties in northern China. During the discussion, sinologists, translators, and publishers attending the conference expressed that a group of new contemporary literary works represented by "Ascending Spring Terrace", "Along the Way", and "Cloud Falling" have written about different aspects of contemporary China, historical China, and county-level China, outlining a broad picture of Chinese society. These works have the potential to break national borders and resonate with more readers worldwide. It is believed that the translation, exchange, and dialogue of literary works are of great significance for cultural exchange and mutual learning. We look forward to more young translators and sinologists joining us to promote literary exchange between China and foreign countries. It is reported that the "New Era Literature Climbing Plan" has released 42 works since its launch in July 2022. To build a bridge between Chinese literature and world readers, and promote these works to go global, the China Writers Association and China Book Import and Export (Group) Co., Ltd. have collaborated to implement the "Sailing Plan". At present, 29 works selected for the "New Era Literature Climbing Plan" have signed over 100 copyright export contracts with overseas publishing houses, covering 26 languages. (Lai Xin She)
