Do not indulge in the cold in hot weather and take precautions against heat and cold

2024-07-03

In hot weather, the human body expands its pores and sweats more in order to dissipate heat from the body. If one excessively greets the cold or experiences sudden changes in temperature, it can easily lead to a summer cold, commonly known as a "hot cold". Han Juan, the chief physician of Baokang Hospital affiliated with Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, introduced in an interview that fever is a type of wind heat cold, characterized by severe fever, mild aversion to cold, headache and pain, sweating, sore throat, cough, sticky or yellow phlegm, nasal congestion and runny nose. In addition, it is often accompanied by symptoms of the digestive tract, such as bloating, diarrhea, loss of appetite, etc. "After suffering from a fever and cold, some people have been treated for several days but have not shown any improvement. Many cases are due to improper medication." Han Juan pointed out that the treatment of heat and cold should be based on the treatment of spicy and cool relieving exterior syndrome. Those with mild symptoms can take traditional Chinese patent medicines and simple preparations that have the functions of relieving exterior syndrome, clearing heat and resolving phlegm. However, if there is no obvious improvement or aggravation of symptoms after medication, they should seek medical advice in a timely manner. Meanwhile, during the illness, one should rest more and ensure sufficient sleep; Adequate drinking water and appropriate intake of electrolyte water; Pay attention to a balanced diet and avoid eating spicy and greasy foods. In addition, patients with fever can also relieve cough and nasal congestion symptoms by pressing the Feishu acupoint (located on the back of the human body, under the third thoracic spine spinous process, with two fingers wide apart on the left and right sides). Gently press the acupoint with your fingers until there is a noticeable feeling of soreness and swelling at the pressing point. If the symptoms of nasal congestion are severe, you can also press the Yingxiang acupoint (located at the midpoint of the outer edge of the nasal wing, in the nasolabial groove). Press and hold the acupoints on both sides with both index fingers, and rub them 50 times in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions until the acupoints slightly heat up. Han Juan said that prevention is the key to catching a fever. In the hot summer season, it is important to maintain a regular lifestyle, eat reasonably, and strengthen exercise. Do not excessively indulge in coolness, and it is best not to set the temperature below 26 degrees Celsius when using air conditioning. Regularly open windows indoors for ventilation. Especially important to note is that when entering an air-conditioned room from a hot outdoor environment, one should wipe off sweat in advance and provide a buffer for the body between sudden heat and cold.
