China releases four categories of nutrition and exercise guidelines for chronic diseases

The National Health Commission has entrusted the National Center for Cardiovascular Disease to take the lead in organizing experts in relevant fields to study and formulate nutrition and exercise guidelines (2024 version) for four types of chronic diseases in adults, including hypertension, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, and hyperuricemia. This further strengthens the shift of chronic disease prevention and control, improves the ability of chronic disease patients to maintain and promote their own health. According to the guiding principles, in terms of nutrition, adult patients with four types of chronic diseases, including hypertension, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, and hyperuricemia, should adhere to a healthy diet, control energy intake, ensure the intake of fresh vegetables and fruits, and limit smoking, alcohol, or alcohol consumption; In terms of exercise, patients with four types of chronic diseases should adhere to regular exercise, moderate strength measurement, and gradual progress. It is reported that hypertension is a systemic disease that can lead to serious complications such as stroke, coronary heart disease, heart failure, and renal failure. Currently, the prevalence of hypertension in adults in China is about 27.5%. Hyperglycemia (including pre diabetes and diabetes) is a metabolic state characterized by chronic hyperglycemia. The prevalence rate of diabetes in adults is about 11.9%, the detection rate of pre diabetes is 35.2%, and the prevalence rate of diabetes in adults aged 50 years and over is higher. Hyperlipidemia is a disease caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors leading to lipid synthesis and metabolic disorders. The incidence of adult hyperlipidemia is approximately 35.6%. Hyperuricemia is a metabolic disease with an overall prevalence of approximately 13.3%. The person in charge of the Medical Emergency Department of the National Health Commission said that various regions should fully leverage the leading role of medical and health institutions at all levels, strengthen non pharmacological interventions and guidance on nutrition and exercise for patients with chronic diseases, guide the public to improve their health awareness of self-management of chronic diseases, effectively control risk factors related to chronic diseases through reasonable diet and scientific exercise, and continuously improve the health level of the masses.
