"Zhashan" becomes "Jinshan"? Experience of Nanchang Solid Waste Treatment Circular Economy Industrial Park
2024-07-02
In the distance, there are lush green mountains and lush plants, and the nearby grassland is covered with photovoltaic panels. Several dragonflies fly lightly in the air... The solid waste treatment circular economy industrial park in Nanchang Economic and Technological Development Zone, Jiangxi Province, is like a small park located in the suburbs. It's hard to imagine that this used to be the "slag mountain" where Nanchang's household waste has been buried for up to 24 years. Xiong Wei, Chairman of Jiangxi Dingyuan Ecological Environmental Protection Co., Ltd., responsible for the management and operation of the industrial park, introduced that the Maiyuan domestic waste landfill located here was once the only domestic waste landfill in Nanchang City. It has been in operation since 1997 and has accumulated 12 million cubic meters of garbage. However, due to the outdated traditional garbage treatment technology, open landfill operations not only expose the garbage, breed mosquitoes and flies, but also emit odor, which can be smelled from several kilometers away when there is high temperature or wind. According to statistics, from 2017 to 2021, there were over 1000 complaints per year from surrounding residents. Local resident Yin Youcong said that he lives in a community two kilometers away from the Maiyuan landfill, where the higher the temperature used to be, the stronger the odor. In order to completely cure the "heartache" in the development process of this city, in 2021, the Maiyuan domestic waste landfill completed the final closure, fully covered the garbage heap with soil and film, and invested about 2.5 billion yuan to build a solid waste treatment circular economy industrial park. Soil layer, filter, PE film, gravel layer... Xiong Wei told reporters, "In order to ensure that there is no odor escaping, a total of 9 layers of 'protective clothing' have been covered on the garbage heap. Outside the 'protective clothing', black biogas collection pipes are also crisscrossed, collecting the biogas produced by the fermentation of the garbage heap for power generation.". Xiong Wei said that a few years ago, these pipelines could collect 180000 cubic meters of biogas per day during peak hours, but now it has decreased to 20000 to 30000 cubic meters per day, indicating that the garbage heap is gradually degrading. Next, the industrial park plans to lay over 80000 photovoltaic panels on it, with an expected annual average power generation of 43.93 million kilowatt hours and a reduction of 37700 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. Nowadays, with the continuous optimization of the environment, "Zhashan" is no longer. How should local household waste be disposed of in the future? With doubts in mind, the reporter once again visited the incineration power generation project in the Nanchang Solid Waste Treatment Circular Economy Industrial Park. Through the enclosed glass in the dispatch room, there are tons of household waste stored in the huge garbage bin. It is reported that the garbage bin is divided into three areas based on the fermentation situation: stacking area, fermentation area, and feeding area. At this moment, a huge garbage crane similar to a claw grabbing machine is picking up about 8 tons of household waste and throwing it into an incinerator with a furnace temperature of up to thousands of degrees Celsius. On one side of the garbage bin, three suction ports are constantly working, extracting 200000 cubic meters of gas from the garbage bin every hour into the incinerator. This not only ensures that the odor in the garbage bin will not overflow, but also fully utilizes the combustible gas in the garbage bin to improve combustion efficiency. It is worth mentioning that the substances generated throughout the process can be recycled and reused. For example, the leachate generated from garbage dewatering can be used to supplement water in the cooling tower after treatment; The remaining slag from incineration can be used as building materials to make guide bricks, stop bricks, etc. "We process 1 million tons of household waste every year, accounting for approximately 60% of the total household waste in Nanchang City." Gong Yuliang, the person in charge of the incineration power generation project, said that the heat generated by garbage combustion will be converted into electrical energy. In addition to the electricity used by the entire plant itself, the incineration power generation plant will also deliver 1.2 million kilowatt hours of electricity to the national power grid every day, which can meet the electricity needs of 120000 households in the surrounding area. "The 'garbage mountain' that used to bother residents is becoming a 'golden mountain' that continuously generates economic and environmental benefits." Gong Yuliang said. (Lai Xin She)
