On June 24, the team of Fang Zhong, Dai Xi, Weng Hongming, Yu Rui and Wang Zhijun from the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was awarded the first prize of the the State Natural Science Award for their research achievement of "calculation and prediction of topological electronic materials". The team has successfully discovered several important topological electronic material systems, such as quantum anomalous Hall effect insulators, topological Dirac semimetals, topological Wail semimetals, etc., through the development of distinctive computational methods. This has promoted the leapfrog development of topological electronic state research in recent years and also made China at the forefront of the international research field. Academician Fang Zhong introduced that the study of topological electronic states and their materials is an important frontier direction that has rapidly developed in the field of condensed matter physics in recent years, greatly expanding people's understanding of the essence of physical states and laying a scientific and material foundation for the application of new functional devices. This field has developed rapidly in just over a decade, thanks to a rare and unique development model, which is to calculate and predict the discovery of materials, which has been experimentally confirmed.
