On the occasion of the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the CPC, the spy war drama "Towards Yan'an" will be performed at the National Grand Theater in Beijing from June 28 to July 1. The drama is set in Shanghai after the Battle of Shanghai in 1937, and tells the story of the protagonist Xiang Jinxi, who, as a chef, carries out undercover missions and grows from an inexperienced student to a revolutionary. The play "Xiang Yan'an" is adapted by writer Hai Fei from his novel of the same name. Haifei said that the true meaning of "heading towards Yan'an" is "heart to heart". The protagonist did not leave Shanghai in his lifetime, but arrived in "Yan'an" in a hidden and great way. This also has practical significance that is in line with the spirit of the times for young people today. Director Li Bonan strives to imbue the literary aspect of the play with a theatrical effect: a grand and freehand bell tower always stands on stage, becoming the main image of Yan'an that he yearns for, and a powerful modern poem "To Yan'an" runs through the entire play.
