On June 15th and 16th, 2024, the Zhongshan Cultural and Art Center performed a large-scale historical Cantonese opera "Zhang Jiuling" for two consecutive nights with a melodious Cantonese charm and applause. The large-scale newly edited historical Cantonese opera "Zhang Jiuling" is a special funding project supported by Guangdong Province's literary and artistic talents. It is supported by Liu Qiyu as the literary consultant, national first-class screenwriter Luo Zhou as the screenwriter, famous Cantonese opera screenwriter Chen Jinrong as the adaptation of Cantonese opera, national first-class director Xu Chunlan as the director, national first-class director Xu Guanghua as the deputy director, and national first-class actor Wen Ruqing as the lead actor. It presents the story of Zhang Jiuling overcoming all difficulties and opening the Meiguan Post Road over a thousand years ago. This drama once shone brightly at the 15th Guangdong Provincial Art Festival and won the first prize for large-scale stage art works (Drama Group). The whole drama has a tight rhythm and is divided into seven parts: "Request for permission to open mountains", "Meet to save the people", "Face the holy fruit", "Aji falls off the cliff", "Ask Buddha under the moon", "Nine year old single shovel", and "Inspire the people". Accompanied by different styles of music, the entire drama unfolds on a romantic stage full of ink and wash, seemingly bringing the audience back to the stunning moonlight of the Tang Dynasty that has lasted for thousands of years.
