Peregrini takes office as the President of Slovakia

Former Speaker of the Slovak National Assembly, Pellegrini, was sworn in as the President of Slovakia for a term of 5 years in the capital city of Bratislava on the 15th. Pellegrini subsequently delivered his inauguration speech, stating that Slovakia is currently in an extremely difficult period, and the recent assassination of Prime Minister Fizo has exacerbated the current chaotic situation. He promises to unite all sectors of society, jointly build a cohesive society, and create a better future. Peregrini is 48 years old and served as the Prime Minister of Slovakia from 2018 to 2020. He was elected as the Speaker of the Slovak National Assembly in October 2023. In the second round of presidential elections held in early April this year, Pellegrini defeated former Foreign Minister Korchok to win the election. Peregrini is the sixth President of Slovakia since its independence in 1993, and his predecessor, Chaptova, expired on June 15th. (Lai Xin She)
