Technology makes museum language more diverse

2024-06-14

Nowadays, exhibition viewing has become a way of life for people, and the connotation and form of museums are becoming increasingly rich. Especially with the more mature application of digital technology in exhibition services, the construction of "smart museums" has become a new trend in the development of museums in China. Emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence are widely used in the exhibition process, bringing cultural relics to life. For example, the Yunnan Chengjiang Fossil Site World Natural Heritage Museum utilizes advanced equipment and technological means to create an immersive experience space. At the Cambrian Chronicle Ball Screen Experience Hall, a giant ball screen with a diameter of up to 16 meters and a wide 360 degree perspective can bring a visual effect of "stars that can be picked by hand" to the audience, vividly explaining the evolution of life and the changes in the universe. The application of technology can enhance the interactivity and experience of visitors, allowing knowledge to better enter their minds and hearts. To some extent, although cultural relics are concrete, they carry a large amount of information. The blessing of technological means, such as naked eye 3D, holographic projection display, VR virtual reality, and sensory interaction, can turn knowledge acquisition into experiential projects, making the long history and splendid culture accessible. Applying technology to museum construction can also help enhance the service functions of museums. Nowadays, some exhibitions are moving towards the cloud through new media platforms, breaking free from the temporal and spatial limitations of physical exhibitions, and enriching traditional museum language with lively expressions and greater information content. More and more museums have achieved "never closing" online, which has to some extent extended the service time of museums. The diversified application of technology not only enhances the fun of exhibitions, but also further enhances the attractiveness and influence of museums. The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed to implement the national cultural digitization strategy and increase the protection of cultural relics and heritage. Digital technology has changed the way knowledge and culture are disseminated, making a thousand years and thousands of miles a reality, and promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of excellent traditional culture with more possibilities. We are pleased to see the deep integration of cutting-edge technology and excellent traditional culture, empowering cultural inheritance and development with technology, and continuously improving the quality and efficiency of public cultural services.
