Chinese path to modernization in the eyes of foreign servicemen | Lieutenant Li Tao of Gabon Navy: experience the modernization of harmonious coexistence between man and nature

Last September, I came to Qingdao, China from the distant west coast of Africa to study at the Naval Submarine Academy. During my study and life here, I deeply felt China's emphasis on environmental protection and green development. Chinese path to modernization is a kind of modernization in which man and nature coexist harmoniously. As a modern city, Qingdao is connected by mountains and seas, with beautiful scenery. Blue sky, white clouds, clear water... In addition to studying, I often take a walk in the garden of the college, feeling the influence of nature and culture; On weekends, I enjoy taking the bus through this city to experience the harmonious blend of green and development. In China, people often say that green mountains and clear waters are like mountains of gold and silver, and the concept of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature has long been deeply rooted in people's hearts. A teacher told me that Chinese people have a firm belief in green development. From promoting the return of farmland to forests to promoting green transportation, from vigorously developing wind and solar power to carrying out soil and water conservation, the green foundation of China's development is becoming increasingly solid. What impressed me most was that on the roads in Qingdao, various domestically produced new energy vehicles with novel designs and rich functions are very common. With the support of advanced technology, new energy vehicles can not only reduce urban traffic noise, but also effectively improve energy utilization efficiency, reduce air pollution and carbon emissions. I heard that new energy vehicles in China are also widely popular in overseas markets and have become a beautiful business card for China's green development. High speed rail is also indispensable in the picture of China's green development. During our visit and study in Sichuan organized by the college, I took the Chinese high-speed railway for the first time. What confuses me a bit is that in some sections of the road, high-speed trains operate on elevated bridges rather than on the ground. Later, through communication with my classmates, I learned that in some special road sections, this design can not only improve driving smoothness and safety, but also effectively reduce land occupation and better protect vegetation and farmland. China has not forgotten environmental protection in the process of developing high-speed rail, and this concept is commendable. What is even more commendable is that China not only benefits its domestic people with its own green development, but also actively builds various green exchange and cooperation platforms and conducts foreign aid. In Gabon, China's aid in the construction of the Dabaha Hydroelectric Power Station has provided a continuous source of clean energy for China's economic and social development, and has written a brilliant stroke on our development picture. Gabon has a high forest coverage rate, and over the years, timber exports have brought considerable benefits to Gabon. However, the extensive development model has also caused some environmental problems. After coming to China to study, I deeply understand that in the process of development, it is necessary to protect and develop both, and make good use of natural resources in a sustainable way. Since the beginning of this year, extreme weather has been occurring in many parts of the world, reminding people of the importance and urgency of achieving green development. In my study abroad life in China, I fully feel the theoretical and practical significance of the modernization of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. I hope that in the future, more countries can work together to write a new chapter of green development. (Lai Xin She)
