The "May 18 International Museum Day" in 2024, the main venue of China, was held in Xi'an, Shaanxi recently. The National Cutural Heritage Administration announced the fifth batch of 123 national first-class museums on the list. Among them, Jiangsu Province has added 13 new museums, and Suzhou and Wuxi have selected 3 county-level museums, namely the Suzhou Wuzhong District Museum (Suzhou Wu Culture Museum), Yixing City Museum, and Jiangyin City Museum. As the first district and county museum in the Yangtze River Delta region to be selected as a national first-class museum, Changshu Museum was already selected in the fourth batch of selection in 2020. Why is the district and county museum so unique? The innovative practice of Su Xichang has practical reference significance. The evaluation and grading of national museums is an important indicator of the flourishing development of cultural and museum industries in a region or city. National first-class museums, as the highest standard for this evaluation, have listed scientific and standardized standards for the three major sections of "museum comprehensive management and infrastructure", "collection management and scientific research", and "exhibition and social services". A number of district and county-level museums have been selected as national first-class museums, which also indicates that in recent years, China's district and county-level museum industry has made significant progress in collection, management system, talent introduction, academic building, and other aspects. Suzhou, Wuxi, and Changzhou have a long history, rich cultural heritage, distinctive features, and profound cultural heritage. The district and county museums selected as national first-class museums this time have rich collection resources, diverse and complete categories, and distinct local characteristics. The Suzhou Wu Culture Museum is a local characteristic museum that comprehensively showcases the culture of Wu. The museum houses several first-class cultural relics, including the Neolithic Liangzhu Culture belt engraved talisman black pottery fish basket shaped ear pot, the Yuan glazed red cloud dragon patterned lid jar, and the Yuan Zhizheng Yiyou Zhu Bishan made silver Cha cup. Among them, there are only four silver cups made by Zhu Bishan during the reign of Emperor Zhizheng and Emperor Yiyou in the world. Yixing Museum is home to 35000 cultural relics. The flat bottomed waist eaves cauldron in the museum collection is a typical device of the Luotuodun Cultural Site, which witnessed the life of ancestors in the the Taihu Lake Lake basin 7000 years ago. The Huiyuan Zhuangyuan Archway (Xiangguo memorial archway), the treasure of the town hall, is composed of more than 400 White Marble components, 6 columns and 3 rooms, weighing 100 tons, inheriting Yixing's idea of advocating culture and education since ancient times. The collection of Jiangyin Museum includes pottery from the Majiabang and Songze cultures of the Neolithic Age, jade from the Liangzhu Culture, porcelain and lacquerware from the Song and Yuan Dynasties, and gold and silver artifacts from the Ming Dynasty, all of which have strong local cultural characteristics. The treasure of Zhenguan is the Ming Dynasty inlaid gemstone golden phoenix hairpin, which is made by hammering a piece of gold leaf as a whole, and is embedded with 19 red and blue gemstones throughout the body. In the environment of large and strong museums in Jiangsu Province, the breakthrough of district and county museums must highlight their own characteristics. One of the important reasons why district and county museums are listed as national first-class museums is their distinctive exhibitions, diverse activities, and continuous academic cultivation. Suzhou Wu Culture Museum utilizes technological means to create three-dimensional digital exhibitions, develop themed digital collections, and launch VR exhibitions. The first domestic "AI cultural and museum course project" launched by the museum has attracted many young people to fall in love with cultural and museum courses. The special exhibition of "Tree Stele Biography" features ancient and famous trees from Wuzhong as the protagonist, and after years of field research, it reflects the museum's solid and rigorous academic style. Yixing Museum adheres to the exhibition concept of "joint curation and multi-party participation", and creates a "all member social education" social science popularization brand. The museum is the first education sub center of the Forbidden City in China, providing special education projects and cultural experiences for primary and secondary school students and the public between Yixing and Beijing, forming a "two-way" output of excellent traditional Chinese culture. We have innovatively created the "Yibo Art Education Classroom" offline and carried out rich social practice activities for young people. The Jiangyin Museum focuses on social hot topics, focuses on local cultural characteristics, and uses its collection of cultural relics to hold original exhibitions with warmth and heat, such as "Time and Sea Ferry to Liangzhu", "Eating Grass", "Huiyi", and "Rivers and Harmony - Ancient Animal Shapes and Humanities Art Exhibition", which have become popular since their release. In addition, the museum organizes brand service activities such as "Walking Jiangbo", committed to building the museum into a "collection battlefield", "cultural and museum corridor", "research platform", and "learning classroom". It can be seen that allowing "small" museums to have "large" exhibitions, conducting in-depth research and excavation of the historical value and historical significance of the collections, and telling the story of regional civilization is the breakthrough path for small and medium-sized museums at the district and county levels. Museums, as memory entities of cities, are important carriers of cultural dissemination and require sustained policy support and financial support. But not all district and county-level museums must be developed into national first-class museums, highlighting local characteristics, and innovating cultural relics exhibition concepts to promote sustainable development of district and county-level museums. Jiangsu has a developed economy, and "Su Xi Chang" is also a highland of the national district and county economy. A good economic foundation provides important economic support for the development of district and county cultural museums. In November 2021, the "14th Five Year Plan" for the development of cultural relics in Jiangsu Province proposed to support cities such as Nanjing, Suzhou, and Wuxi in building museum cities, guiding and promoting the development of museums from a policy perspective. In the past five years, governments at all levels in Jiangsu Province have continuously promoted the sinking of higher education resources to districts and counties. A group of excellent domestic higher education institutions have settled in the districts and counties of "Su Xi Chang". The improvement of policies and the cultivation of cultural and museum talents have injected new momentum into the development of district and county museums. Although wise, it is better to seize the opportunity; Although there is a foundation, it is better to wait for the time. Currently, with the continuous rise of museum fever, all types of museums can only find their own characteristics and direction positioning, diligently cultivate internal skills, and explore and innovate in order to walk steadily and have full confidence. Small and beautiful, small and interesting, small and hot, small and excellent district and county museums can also attract visitors and integrate cultural background into the modernization development of district and county cities.
