For the first time in the world! Chang'e-6 departs home with the moon carrying local specialties
2024-06-04
The "treasure hunt" on the back of the moon has ended smoothly, and Chang'e-6 has set off for home! At 7:38 am on June 4th, the Chang'e-6 spacecraft carried lunar samples from the far side of the moon and successfully entered the planned lunar orbit. Chang'e-6 has completed the world's first lunar backside sampling and takeoff. The Antarctic Aitken Basin on the far side of the Moon is recognized as the largest, oldest, and deepest basin on the Moon. Conducting the world's first lunar backsampling here is of great significance for further understanding the moon. From June 2nd to 3rd, Chang'e-6 successfully completed the intelligent rapid sampling in the Antarctic Aitken Basin on the far side of the Moon, and packaged and stored precious samples on the far side of the Moon in the storage device carried by the ascent, completing the "packing and packing" of this space express. From digging to picking up and then packaging, done beautifully in one go! This stems from innovative design that dares to take the lead - "Digging Treasures" focuses on "fast, stable, and accurate". Due to the limitation of relay communication time on the far side of the moon, Chang'e-6 adopts fast intelligent sampling technology to shorten the effective working time of lunar surface sampling to less than 20 hours; At the same time, the detector withstood the test of the temperature difference between the moon and the back, overcame difficulties in measurement and control, lighting, power supply, etc., and collected lunar samples through two methods: drilling with drilling tools and mechanical arm surface sampling. Take the treasure trove once and see enough. The Chang'e-6 lander is equipped with various payloads such as landing cameras, panoramic cameras, lunar soil structure detectors, and lunar mineral spectral analyzers, which have been turned on normally to serve detection and research of lunar surface morphology and mineral components, detection of shallow lunar structures, and analysis of underground lunar soil structures in sampling areas. These "golden eyes" can not only "see" the moon clearly, but also "see" the moon clearly. On the lunar journey, taking photos and checking in is essential. After landing, the "photography car" carried by the Chang'e-6 lander and ascent combination moved autonomously and successfully took photos of the return lander and ascent. "Doing scientific research" highlights the "international style". The international payloads carried by the Chang'e-6 lander, such as the European Space Agency lunar surface negative ion analyzer and the French lunar radon detector, are working normally and have carried out corresponding scientific exploration missions; The Italian laser corner reflector installed on top of the lander serves as a position control point on the far side of the moon for distance measurement. Chinese and partner scientists will share scientific data, conduct joint research, and produce more results. After the treasure hunt is completed, take off in three steps. Compared with the lunar takeoff of Chang'e-5, the engineering implementation difficulty of the lunar back takeoff of Chang'e-6 ascent is greater. With the assistance of the Queqiao 2 relay satellite, the Chang'e-6 ascent uses its own special sensors to achieve autonomous positioning and attitude determination. After the ignition and takeoff of the ascent, it went through three stages: vertical ascent, attitude adjustment, and orbital launch, and successfully entered the scheduled lunar orbit. Subsequently, the lunar samples will be transferred to the spacecraft and brought back to Earth by the spacecraft. And this bright red hue - after the surface retrieval was completed, the five-star red flag carried by the Chang'e-6 lander was successfully deployed on the far side of the moon. This is the first time that China has independently and dynamically displayed its national flag on the far side of the moon. "Chinese Red" also carries the common dream of humanity. Wishing Chang'e-6 a smooth return journey, we are waiting for you on Earth! (Lai Xin She)
