Recently, South Africa officially established the Defense Artificial Intelligence Research Center at the South African Military Academy in the Western Cape Province to conduct research on the application of artificial intelligence in the fields of defense and national security. It is not only the fourth artificial intelligence research center in South Africa, but also the first artificial intelligence research institution in Africa to focus on the field of defense. The South African Defense Force stated that the establishment of a Defense Artificial Intelligence Research Center is an important step in the country's use of artificial intelligence technology to enhance military strength. In the future, more such research centers will be established to further explore the application of artificial intelligence technology in multiple fields. The application of artificial intelligence technology in the African region is still in its early stages. Currently, seven African countries have introduced artificial intelligence policies and strategies, and regard artificial intelligence technology as an important means to promote economic growth and ensure national security. Among them, South Africa's artificial intelligence technology is in a leading position among African countries. The country not only participated in the formulation of the 2019 "Artificial Intelligence Africa Blueprint" plan, but also participated in the drafting of the "African Union Artificial Intelligence Continental Strategy". South Africa is also one of the few countries on the African continent with artificial intelligence infrastructure. In recent years, it has achieved rapid development in machine learning, as well as artificial intelligence applications in agriculture, healthcare, and energy.
