May 31st is an important day for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia. The friendship between the two countries has a long history, and the development of bilateral relations has always been at the forefront of regional countries. China and Malaysia officially established diplomatic relations on May 31, 1974, and their overall development has been smooth since the establishment of diplomatic relations; In 1999, the two countries signed a joint statement on the future framework of bilateral cooperation; In 2004, the leaders of the two countries reached a consensus on developing strategic cooperation between China and Malaysia; In 2013, the two countries established a comprehensive strategic partnership; In 2023, the two countries announced the joint construction of a community with a shared future between China and Malaysia. The two sides should continue to improve the level of high-quality joint construction of the "the Belt and Road", promote key projects, foster growth points of cooperation in digital economy, green development, new energy and other fields, and explore people's livelihood cooperation to make China Malaysia relations more beneficial to the two peoples. The Malaysian side is willing to strengthen bilateral economic and trade cooperation and the construction of the "Two Countries, Two Parks" with China, draw on China's experience in poverty reduction, and strengthen cooperation in areas such as agricultural modernization. Welcome Chinese companies to invest and cooperate in Malaysia. At a time of deepening globalization, China and Malaysia have jointly promoted the vigorous development of economic cooperation between the two countries by jointly building the "the Belt and Road" initiative. It is understood that since China put forward the "the Belt and Road" initiative, China and Malaysia have made remarkable achievements in economic and trade cooperation. China has become Malaysia's largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years. The bilateral trade volume between China and Malaysia has grown rapidly from 932 million dollars in 2013 to 190.24 billion dollars in 2023, achieving an astonishing growth of more than 200 times, highlighting the great potential of the "the Belt and Road" initiative in promoting international cooperation and economic development. In addition, Malaysia's trade with China accounts for approximately 21% of Malaysia's total trade volume; Meanwhile, China is also Malaysia's largest source of imports, accounting for 21.3% of Malaysia's total imports. In terms of investment, China and Malaysia have also shown a good cooperation trend. As of July 2023, Malaysia's actual investment in China has reached 9.2 billion US dollars, which reflects Malaysia's confidence in the Chinese market and support for the "the Belt and Road" initiative. At the same time, China's various investments in Malaysia have also reached 16.87 billion US dollars. These investments have not only injected new impetus into Malaysia's economic growth, but also promoted in-depth cooperation between the two countries in industries, technology, talent and other fields. Among them, the 648 kilometer long East Rail Plan is China's largest single investment in Malaysia. It officially started construction on August 9, 2017 and is expected to start operation in January 2027. In addition to economic and trade cooperation, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, significant achievements have been made in cooperation in areas such as culture, tourism, education, and technology, fully demonstrating the profound foundation of China Malaysia friendship. In terms of cultural tourism, the interaction between China and Malaysia is particularly active. Chinese tourists show a strong interest in Malaysia's unique charm and rich tourism resources. Since 2012, China has been Malaysia's largest tourist source country outside of ASEAN countries. The consumption generated by Chinese tourists accounts for 17.8% of Malaysia's total tourism revenue, making an important contribution to Malaysia's economic growth. With the improvement of the epidemic, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Malaysia is showing a steady growth trend, which will effectively promote the recovery of Malaysia's tourism industry and inject new vitality into its economic growth. In the future, we believe that with the continuous deepening of bilateral relations and the further opening of the tourism market, tourism exchanges between China and Malaysia will usher in a more prosperous period. In the fields of education, technology, and more, with more and more Chinese students and scholars choosing to pursue further studies or engage in academic exchange activities in Malaysia, as well as a large number of Malaysians coming to China to learn Chinese and cultural knowledge, this cross-cultural exchange and integration has enhanced mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, and made positive contributions to promoting human civilization progress and world peace and development. In the past fifty years, China and Malaysia have successfully resolved their differences through mutual learning, respect, dialogue, and consultation, and are committed to seeking win-win results through cooperation. Nowadays, China Malaysia relations have become mature and resilient. While respecting their respective sovereignty concerns, the two countries have successfully addressed the complex geopolitical situation in the region. Looking ahead to the future, China and Malaysia will continue to strengthen cooperation and exchanges, promote stable and far-reaching development of China Malaysia relations, inject new impetus into the prosperity and development of the two countries and the region, and hope that the friendship between China and Malaysia will last forever!
