New profession, thriving due to AI
2024-05-31
According to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the number of artificial intelligence enterprises in China has exceeded 4500. As a strategic technology that leads the future, artificial intelligence (AI) has given birth to new industries and formats, and also provided new choices for employment. The demand for technical R&D personnel directly related to the AI industry has been increasing year by year. A versatile talent who can proficiently combine AI technology with professional knowledge, becoming the darling of the market. Currently, what popular new professions are emerging due to AI? How should we respond to the changes in employment trends caused by AI and embrace the changes brought about by technological development? Our reporter conducted an interview on this topic. The emergence of new professions. Recently, the first artificial intelligence trainer training program in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province was launched at Ningbo Transportation Senior Technical School. This training is open to the public, and the first batch of more than 40 students have signed up to participate, including college graduates with a background in computer science and employees of enterprises interested in transitioning into related industries. Artificial intelligence trainers refer to personnel who use intelligent training software and perform database management, algorithm parameter settings, human-machine interaction design, performance testing and tracking, and other auxiliary tasks during the use of artificial intelligence products. In February 2020, artificial intelligence trainers were included in the national occupational classification directory as a new profession. In 2021, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security issued the national vocational skills standards for this profession. "Artificial intelligence trainers have a wide range of employment opportunities and the entry threshold is not very high." Jin Yao, Vice President of Ningbo Transportation Advanced Technical School, introduced that employees can learn according to their different needs. "Artificial intelligence trainers are divided into 5 levels. Levels 4 to 5 are data annotators who train AI to be 'smarter' by collecting and processing raw data such as images, speech, text, and videos, and annotating them into structured languages that artificial intelligence can understand. Levels 1 to 3 are high-level engineers responsible for designing and optimizing intelligent systems, requiring knowledge of business analysis, intelligent system design, algorithm parameter tuning, and more. The development of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AIGC) has led to the development of AI painters." Professions such as AI designers have emerged. Ms. Liu, who has been working in design for 8 years in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, has been exposed to AI since last year. Unexpectedly, in just one year, this technology has completely changed her working state. At first, I just wanted to 'try it out' and learn about new technologies. I researched some large models of language and image classes. As I gradually became proficient in using these tools, I realized that I couldn't do without them anymore Ms. Liu told reporters that now, her design work is fully assisted by AI technology. She also created over 50 AI image models and uploaded them to the AI design platform "Duiyou" for colleagues to use together. "At present, my image models have been used hundreds of thousands of times. It can be said that my work has been deeply integrated with AI technology. I believe that with the development of technology, AI can help people complete more incredible design work in the future." "The booming development of AI technology has led to changes in the talent demand of many industries. A number of new professions have emerged due to AI, and a large number of traditional professions have changed due to AI." Yuan Yuan, Executive Vice President of Alibaba Research Institute, told reporters that currently, There are three main directions for employment opportunities generated by the development of AI technology. "Firstly, the number of cutting-edge technology R&D personnel is increasing, and more and more young scientists and engineering technicians are entering the field of AI to promote technological updates and iterations. The second category is related practitioners who stand between large models and ordinary users, such as artificial intelligence trainers. Their job content can be seen as translating between human needs and the capabilities of large models, making AI more intelligent and more in line with the needs of end users through continuous debugging. The third category is the 'super individuals' who benefit from AI technology. Some art creators and knowledge-based workers, with the assistance of AI technology, better complete creative work. Will AI technology squeeze out human employment opportunities?"? This is a doubt that has been lingering in the hearts of many people since the birth of this technology. Professor Ding Yuanzhu from the Social and Ecological Civilization Teaching and Research Department of the Central Party School of the Communist Party of China (National School of Administration) believes that, like previous technological revolutions, artificial intelligence will replace some job positions but also create new ones. The job positions responsible for the development, maintenance, and ethical supervision of artificial intelligence will become increasingly important. The 2023 Future Employment Report released by the World Economic Forum estimates that global companies are expected to create approximately 69 million new jobs in the next five years, with the fastest growing job types mostly related to artificial intelligence and digitization. According to predictions, by 2027, job opportunities for practitioners such as data analysts, big data experts, artificial intelligence, and machine learning experts will increase by an average of 30%. "The application of AI technology will bring certain changes to the employment structure, but AI cannot replace human work." Yuan Yuan believes that currently, AI technology has only lowered the entry barriers for many jobs, but it cannot replace human control over the entire process of tasks. "For example, if you don't know photography, video editing and other techniques, and can create a short film using AI tools, but what scenery to take, what ideas to express, and what kind of aesthetics to present in the short film ultimately depends on people." Ms. Liu, an actual practitioner, also gave more positive feedback on her collaboration process with AI. When AIGC was just becoming popular, there were indeed designer friends around who were anxious, thinking that AI would make our work cheaper. But in fact, AI can help designers reduce a lot of tedious and repetitive work content, optimize workflow, and greatly improve work efficiency Ms. Liu said that she can now use AI to quickly generate concepts and creativity in the early stages of design. "AI can provide some content that we have never seen before, help designers break through thinking limitations, and create some new design concepts." In Ms. Liu's view, AI technology has helped me improve my business capabilities. When drawing sci-fi themed images, AI tools have provided me with a lot of inspiration. In addition, AI can also quickly generate design sketches, helping designers communicate more efficiently with clients and shorten the overall design cycle. I also utilized AI work to achieve animation and video production that I couldn't independently complete in the past, expanding my business scope The training system needs to be improved. Faced with the potential changes in employment structure brought about by AI, how should employers actively respond? "Entering the era of AI, everyone's ability to use AI has developed into an emerging skill and will also become a key competitive advantage in the workplace." Yuan Yuan believes that young job seekers should exert subjective initiative, from receiving and understanding to mastering and applying, to achieve collaboration with AI. In the face of rapidly changing technologies, talents who can maintain sufficient curiosity, accumulate interdisciplinary knowledge, and integrate them will adapt to change faster. To enable more job seekers to have the ability to use AI, it is necessary to establish a more comprehensive talent training system and introduce more relevant support policies. Not long ago, Sichuan Academy of Artificial Intelligence was established. The college adopts a "1+N" model of co construction among government, university, enterprise, and college, led by the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, integrating resources from universities, research institutes, and well-known enterprises in Sichuan Province to enhance the adaptability of artificial intelligence talent cultivation to industry demand. Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province has launched a pilot program for "one trial, two certifications" for artificial intelligence trainers. After participating in training and passing certification exams, candidates can obtain enterprise certification certificates and corresponding vocational skill level certificates. Not only can one enjoy policy benefits such as skill subsidies and bonus points for household registration, but they can also give priority to job opportunities. "To adapt to the rapid development of artificial intelligence, relevant policy measures should be formulated as soon as possible." Ding Yuanzhu pointed out that these measures should be comprehensive and multifaceted. For example, it is possible to encourage members of society of all ages to continue learning new skills through online courses, seminars, and training courses; Encourage enterprises to invest in training employees in artificial intelligence literacy and complementary abilities with artificial intelligence. Ding Yuanzhu also suggested that laws and regulations for the development and deployment of artificial intelligence could be formulated and improved to "ensure that artificial intelligence continuously enhances human capabilities, rather than completely replacing human labor."
