Searching for a sweet spot on the battlefield to maximize combat effectiveness

In basketball, there is a professional term called "dessert spot", which refers to the scoring area where players excel. Excellent players are good at using their sweet spot to break through the opponent's defense and obtain stable scores; Targeting the opponent's sweet spot for restriction and implementing efficient defense. For the field of combat, the "dessert spot" principle also has reference significance. In combat, the "sweet spot" represents the advantage of one's own combat power system, reflected in one or more aspects such as power comparison, combat deployment, operational capabilities, tactical tactics, etc., which are superior to the opponent. Combat is the confrontation between systems, a comprehensive competition between the enemy and our combat systems, where the strength and weakness, as well as the superiority and inferiority of various elements, are relative. If one can fully utilize their own "sweet spot" during the combat process, while suppressing the opponent's "sweet spot", then the advantages and disadvantages of both sides may be reversed. During the Battle of Shentouling during the War of Resistance Against Japan, although our army had disadvantages in weapons and equipment, our mastery of the terrain in the combat area was far superior to that of the Japanese army. The 386th Brigade of the Eighth Route Army, which was responsible for combat tasks, adopted a force deployment of "light in the front and heavy in the back, and three side pincer attacks", using complex terrain to restrict the Japanese army's mobility, weakening their relative advantage and ultimately achieving a significant victory. Currently, the mode of combat is changing, but the winning tactics of "knowing the enemy and oneself, and being invincible in a hundred battles" have not changed. By conducting in-depth research on the sweet spots between the enemy and us, maintaining a clear understanding of the battlefield situation, especially the strength of both sides, and systematically analyzing and comprehensively considering the mutual constraints between various elements of the opponent's combat system, the optimal strategic and tactical strategies can be formulated based on the sweet spots of both sides. Through local optimization, asymmetric advantages can be obtained to defeat strong enemies and seize the initiative on the battlefield. As the saying goes, war is unpredictable, and water is unpredictable. With the change of combat methods, the sweet spot of the opponent will also shift. This requires us to constantly study our opponents, enhance our understanding of the enemy and ourselves, accurately find their sweet spots, and at the same time, pay attention to the dynamic nature of the system, adjust and flexibly use technological means, battlefield environment, etc. to implement the strategy of "being able to strike but not being able to". We should be good at taking targeted measures based on the changes in the battlefield situation, enemy situation, and combat process, disrupting and disrupting the opponent's understanding of the battlefield situation, leaving the greatest uncertainty to the opponent, and firmly occupying the battlefield advantage. War practice has shown that skilled fighters can not only use their own strengths to defeat the enemy's weaknesses in confrontation, but also use their own strengths to overcome the enemy's strengths. In war, the only constant is "always changing". Only by constantly enriching and expanding our own "dessert spots" can we ensure that we can still calmly respond in a passive situation. If only relying on a few existing "dessert positions" for combat, once the opponent sees through the intention and takes targeted measures, the battlefield may be dominated by others, and our original "dessert positions" may transform into unfavorable or even dangerous "disadvantage positions". Only with a deeper understanding of the enemy and our situation, a broader perspective to do a good job in combat planning, and actively practicing the "sweet spot" of seizing the enemy's trust and defeating their strength, can we seize the advantage, grasp the initiative, and achieve the maximization of combat effectiveness.
