Coordinate protection and development to promote stable and far-reaching development of the tourism industry

2024-05-29

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the development of China's tourism industry has entered a fast lane, forming the world's largest domestic tourism market and becoming one of the largest source countries and main destinations of international tourism. The tourism industry has increasingly become an emerging strategic pillar industry and a livelihood and happiness industry with significant characteristics of the times, successfully paving a unique development path. In the new era and new journey, the development of the tourism industry is facing new opportunities and challenges. The development of tourism in various regions is mostly based on the development and utilization of natural resources or cultural heritage resources. This means that the carrying capacity of the resources themselves must be considered, otherwise it will cause dual damage to human and ecological resources. To promote the high-quality development of the tourism industry, it is necessary to properly handle the relationship between protection and development, and allow precious resources to fully play their role in a virtuous cycle. For a period of time, Shanxi has been praised by netizens as a "treasure trove of Chinese aesthetics", and the Yungang Grottoes have also become a popular check-in spot. Faced with a large influx of tourists, the fragility of the grottoes themselves highlights the issue of balancing cultural relic protection and tourism development. In response, measures such as restricting passenger flow, extending service hours, and opening museums, art galleries, and historical museums have to some extent alleviated the pressure of visitors to the Yungang Grottoes. At the same time, the scenic area has been reinforcing the dangerous rock mass of the grottoes for decades, using digital technology to finely collect cave information and proportionally replicate key caves for exhibition in museums in other regions, allowing more tourists to appreciate the beauty of the Yungang Grottoes on the spot. Coordinating protection and development requires us to update our development concepts, innovate development models, and explore a healthy, orderly, and sustainable path of high-quality development. The relevant practical explorations carried out in Hangzhou, Zhejiang have reference significance. As a world cultural heritage and globally renowned tourist destination, Hangzhou West Lake Scenic Area, with the support and guidance of the government, has broken the traditional ticket fee economy model, balancing planning, protection, and development, integrating the scenic area into the urban area and community, allowing guests and hosts to enjoy pleasant scenery and share ecological dividends. The West Lake Scenic Area has a strong cultural background, and the surrounding economy is prosperous and thriving. The two complement each other and not only attract numerous tourists from both domestic and international markets, but also attract the gathering of cultural and creative industries. As a result, cultural and entrepreneurial forms such as art exhibitions and craft designs have become the new landscape of West Lake, achieving an organic integration of tourism value and cultural and creative value. The beautiful scenery of West Lake in Hangzhou cannot be separated from the continuous efforts and efforts of the local government in the comprehensive environmental management of West Lake. Since 2003, the West Lake Comprehensive Protection Project has been fully launched, including the addition of two pre-treatment plants to strengthen water environment protection. Through several processes such as flocculation and sedimentation, the transparency of the Qiantang River raw water injected into West Lake has reached over 120 centimeters. The tourism industry is a happy industry and a comprehensive service industry that meets people's aspirations for a better life. It embodies rich humanistic values, allowing tourists to fully appreciate the beauty of nature while experiencing cultural charm. The successful exploration of the West Lake Scenic Area in Hangzhou has inspired us to coordinate protection and development, which is an important prerequisite and foundation for fully activating natural landscapes and cultural heritage. Guiding the empowerment of humanistic economy and balancing ecological benefits is a development path worth exploring. The high-quality development of the tourism industry requires not only exploring the economic value of tourism, but also paying attention to the comprehensive spillover effect. While breaking away from the ticket economy model, Hangzhou West Lake also emphasizes protection and development, promoting deep integration of culture and tourism, thereby generating greater and longer-term economic benefits. A good tourism experience itself has economic value, and scenic spots or cities with good overall experience are often more popular among tourists. In recent years, there has been a tourism boom in many regions, and some common features are the good release of the charm of excellent traditional Chinese culture, strong public participation, good interactive experience, and therefore stronger attraction and better growth potential. Successful cases are not uncommon, such as China-Chic tourism in Xi'an, Kaifeng, Luoyang and other places, as well as "village super" and "village BA" mass sports tourism in Guizhou. Of course, the friendliness of the tourism consumption environment is also crucial. For example, in Harbin, the rich and distinctive experience projects, complete supporting facilities, high-quality and affordable consumer services, and warm and hospitable cultural atmosphere have provided tourists with unexpected gains and satisfaction, and Harbin has thus gained new momentum in cultural and tourism consumption. Culture and economy have always been complementary and mutually reinforcing. Economic development provides a material foundation for cultural development, while cultural development endows economic development with profound humanistic value. Adhere to adapting measures to local conditions, and coordinate the protection and development with the wisdom of "asking for firewood in the mountains and fishing in the water", deeply tap into the potential of cultural heritage and ecological resources, improve the level of tourism supply and service quality, and believe that new explorations in various regions will continue to expand new spaces for high-quality development of the tourism industry.
